7 Layer Dip Cups – Perfect for Tailgating!

Blog· Food and Drinks

Growing up in North Texas has engraved a few things in my brain. One that I hold near and dear to my heart is football. No matter what age I am, football has always been very present in my life from growing up with a brother playing to attending a high school that wins state year after year to marrying a man who is completely obsessed with the Cowboys. Even if I hated football (which I don’t), there is no way to avoid it while living in Texas.

If you live in the great state of Texas, you know one thing that always goes with football games – tailgating! It’s a tradition to party and eat before any big game no matter if it’s little league or high school. Even if we aren’t attending the football game, we always have a houseful of friends over for the game. Every good tailgate party has lots of drinks and delicious food. I’m obsessed with entertaining so I love to make food for our tailgate parties but have realized that for tailgating, you can only prepare foods that are easy to carry around and aren’t big. We only have 2 hands so holding big items or multiple plates is not going to happen.

I have a serious love for mexican food, so I came up with a fun way that everyone can enjoy 7 layer dip without having to hover over the bowl. Introducing 7 layer dip cups – the perfect tailgating food. 7 Layer Dip CupsThere are a few reasons I love to make these 7 layer dip cups. Not only are they delicious, they are extremely easy to make. If you’re running out of time and need a go-to dish to take to the tailgate or football party, these are the perfect snack. If you’re really running out of time, buy all of the veg
gies needed already prepped. Sure, it costs a little more but time is money, right?

I seem to go overboard on how much food I make when entertaining. I’m often left with a crazy amount of left overs that never got eaten. When I first started making these 7 Layer Cups, I would make tons of them because everybody loves 7 layer dip! What I didn’t realize at the time is these cups are extremely filling. Many people can’t finish one, so don’t feel the need to make more than 1 for each of your guests. Save yourself the time and money.

To begin, gather all of your ingredients. You will need:

  • small party cups (you can find these are your grocers next to the sandwich bags)
  • refried beans
  • guacamole
  • sour cream
  • cheese
  • green onions
  • pico de gallo
  • tomatoes

Everybody makes their 7 Layer Dip a little different. You can add or subtract any of the ingredients to make it your own. 7 Layer Dip Cups - Easy Tailgating Dish

Now lay out the cups so you can easily fill each with the correct ingredients. Once they are laid out, start with beans since it’s the heaviest ingredient. You can fill your cups as much or as little as you want. I put a hefty serving of each ingredient in the cup. You can put the ingredients in any way that you want. I start with beans on the bottom then add sour cream, guacamole, pico de gallo, cheese, tomatoes and top with green onions. 7 Layer Dip Cups - Easy Tailgating Dish

Not only are these so simple to make, they’re SO tasty.  Even if we aren’t having a party or gathering, I’ll make a few of these up and cover them with plastic wrap. I keep them in my refrigerator for a quick snack throughout the week. No matter what you use them for, they’re great to have handy.

To say I’m “Texas proud” would be an understatement. Any chance I can, I support the great state of Texas and one way is by buying only Ozarka® Brand 100% Natural Spring Water. Ozarka® has more than 100 years of Texas heritage and plays an integral role in the fabric of Texas communities including Texas high school football!

For the second consecutive year, OZARKA® is proud to support the Southlake Carroll High School football program as the official spring water of Dragon Stadium. This season, OZARKA® will be celebrating the three main facets of Texas high school football -community pride, homecoming and tailgating: I’ve partnered with OZARKA to bring tailgating to life and share my favorite recipes.

Now I want to know, what is your favorite tailgating tradition or recipe?

What a great idea. Plus this prevents the double dippers that always seem to be around when we have friends over… and i never know what to say lol

What a great idea! I love seven layer dip, but it’s always annoying to have to share the dip with everyone! I’m so making these!

Perfect way to avoid “double dipping” in one large bowl. Looks yummy although I’ll avoid the guacamole.

Love these cups. I need portioned appetizers otherwise I’d eat the whole darn bowl of dip! Plus, they’ll travel well.

I love 7-layer dip but hate when people bring it to a party in one big container… too messy. This is a great idea!

I'm 100% sure it has something to do with welcoming Myles into this world during the height of a pandemic and keeping a toddler alive at the same time. I can't wait for Christmas morning to make memories with my little family (even though Christmas shopping isn't complete and I haven't even thought about wrapping presents). It will all fall in to place, it always does. We didn't attend our favorite Christmas events this year or get pictures with Santa so this random Santa picture will do and I'm 100% happy with it. If this year has taught you anything, let it be finding the joy in the little things ❤
The holidays are quickly approaching! 🎄 Althoug The holidays are quickly approaching! 🎄 Although things might be a bit different this season, we're still enjoying some of our favorite foods and traditions. This year we're incorporating ordering family meal kits from @chuysrestaurant for not only my family but extended family that we might not be able to hang with this holiday. It's a simple way to spread the joy with loved ones, eat delicious food and not forget the reason for the season. #ad #nachoaverageholiday
