Day Trip To Decatur From Dallas

Blog· Travel

One thing I’ve noticed is true with most people is that they get stuck going to the same restaurants, ordering the same food, visiting the same places in town and rarely venturing out of their comfort zone. I’m guilty of this also. Sometimes it’s just easier to go to a place you know you like or ordering the drink you know you will love. I’ve made it a goal to start venturing out and explore more. Dallas has so many great spots located within an hour from the city so it’s a shame more people aren’t exploring so many hidden gems that are so close by.

To start the year off on the right foot, me and a few friends headed to Decatur, Texas to see what it’s all about. Let me tell you, I’m amazed at all of the great places we visited throughout the day. It made for a great day trip. Let’s talk about the places we visited and some of this small town’s gems.

Stop for Coffee at Trinity Street Coffee Bar

This coffee shop located on the Decatur Town Square is not only a coffee shop but doubles as a bar. Not in the mood for delicious coffee? No problem, grab a stiff drink instead.

There was plenty of seating to be able to work for a few hours or grab a few friends and enjoy an afternoon or night drinking your worries away. The details were amazing. Trinity Street Coffee Bar has two sister properties that you may have frequented before – West Oak Coffee in Denton and Kemzey’s Coffee in Argyle.

Host an event at The Big White Barn

Nothing screams “the perfect barn wedding” like the Big White Barn venue. Set near Decatur, Texas, on a majestic 80 acres of grassy plains, it’s a beautiful backdrop for an outdoor ceremony, with rustic accents like the exposed wood and lines of prairie fence.  If you’re looking for an amazing wedding spot, this is one you can not overlook.

Plan a staycation at The Decatur Court House Suites

Located perfectly on the square, the Decatur Court House Suites is the coolest bed and breakfast I’ve seen. Each suite is decorated completely different and the suites are known to be haunted. While it’s always crazy to hear things like that, the lights started flickering when we walked in which creeped a bunch of us out!

Get Your Zen on at Divine Center of Yoga

Located under the Courthouse Suites is the Divine Center of Yoga. There is nothing like a good yoga session. When you’re on your staycation, sign up for a class to help bring on the relaxation.

Sip and Enjoy the Scenery at Marker Cellars

After shopping around the Decatur Town Square, we headed to Marker Cellars which was only a few miles away. Marker Cellars backs up to the LBJ National Grasslands which makes for the perfect serine environment.

You can visit for wine tastings and a tour of the winery Thursday – Sunday from 12pm – 6pm. We tasted a large variety of wines and each one was delicious. I even bought a bottle that I can’t wait to try at home.

Marker Cellars has a room that is available to host parties or receptions. We took full advantage of their photo booth. It was so much fun!

Host a Girls Weekend at The House on Main

After a busy day of drinking wine and shopping, we headed to the House on Main to check out the newly renovated space that is just perfect for a girls weekend or wedding suite.

This house is the cutest ever, it’s hundreds of years old and the amount of detail in it is amazing.

We ate a delicious lunch at the cutest decorated dining room. The girls at the House on Main have true talent when it comes to making all the pretty things. I can’t wait to come back and enjoy a weekend away!

Make All Your Favorite Crafts at DIY Studio Decatur

I couldn’t wait to craft at DIY Studio Decatur. Before heading there we got to pick and choose what we wanted to make on their website. I chose a Welcome Sign to go on my front porch. I’ve been wanting one for the longest time and was so excited that I was able to make it myself. I love crafting but I’m not the best at it. I like to throw things together so if it requires measuring and cutting things in perfect lines, it might not be in my best interest to make it by myself.

Thankfully, DIY Studio does all the leg work for you. I was able to enjoy putting the pieces together, staining the wood and making my welcome sign just how I wanted.

The DIY Studio had every color paint you can imagine, any time of wood cut out and everything you could ever need to make a craft project. They’re located in a large warehouse and everything is made there which I love.

I will be the first to admit, my house is very neutral with lots of browns and beige. I like to play it safe with my decorating. A couple other girls made the same sign as me but they chose bright colors that match their house and decor. The beauty of the DIY Studio is you can make every project however you want and everybody’s will be different!

Not everybody is class did a welcome sign, my sister who blogs at Digital Mom Blog made the cutest wine sign.

Autumn from Mama Challenge made a sign with her last name.

No matter what you want to make, DIY Studio was able to accomplish it. Everybody’s sign looked so good!

While at DIY Studio Decatur, we learned that they actually supply a lot of products to companies that we love and adore like Chip and Jo Gaines and their products have been featured on Oprah!

Many of their products are made for other companies and those companies just slap their label on it. The quality of work is amazing. They’re always looking for more brands to work with so if you have an idea for a product, reach out to them to get the conversation started.

We had such a great time visiting the local businesses in Decatur. It was such a fun filled day trip from Dallas. If you’re looking for a fun getaway for a day or weekend, don’t skip over Decatur. Reach out if you need more info!

One of my favorite things about 2020.... businesse One of my favorite things about 2020.... businesses adapting and making things work! I was recently introduced to @savageburritos and I'm in love. Savage Burritos is the love child of Uncle Julios so it you like UJ, you'll love Savage. They are a delivery only service offering burritos and bowls from select Uncle Julio kitchens in DFW. We ordered a variety of items from burritos, bowls, queso and more. Every single item was bursting with flavor. I know this year has dragged on and on for many pe I know this year has dragged on and on for many people but it has flown by to me. I'm 100% sure it has something to do with welcoming Myles into this world during the height of a pandemic and keeping a toddler alive at the same time. I can't wait for Christmas morning to make memories with my little family (even though Christmas shopping isn't complete and I haven't even thought about wrapping presents). It will all fall in to place, it always does. We didn't attend our favorite Christmas events this year or get pictures with Santa so this random Santa picture will do and I'm 100% happy with it. If this year has taught you anything, let it be finding the joy in the little things ❤
The holidays are quickly approaching! 🎄 Althoug The holidays are quickly approaching! 🎄 Although things might be a bit different this season, we're still enjoying some of our favorite foods and traditions. This year we're incorporating ordering family meal kits from @chuysrestaurant for not only my family but extended family that we might not be able to hang with this holiday. It's a simple way to spread the joy with loved ones, eat delicious food and not forget the reason for the season. #ad #nachoaverageholiday
Family pictures are always so much fun.... this ye Family pictures are always so much fun.... this year we got to attempt it twice thanks to sweet Bryce. Thankfully the second time around he cooperated. As painful as they may be, I'm so glad we get these done every year. I love looking back at them and see how much we've all changed and how much the kids have grown!
Can y'all believe the end of the year is here? We Can y'all believe the end of the year is here? We got our family pictures back and they look great other than the fact that Bryce decided not to participate. We got one shot with my entire family and Bryce is off to the side playing in poison ivy. 🤦‍♀️

Your child gets to fully immerse themselves into role playing any job they can imagine. From checking animals at the veterinarian, putting out fires as a firefighter, flying planes in an simulator, creating their own personal logo with Bic, or being a weatherman at WFAA - the options are endless! Kidzania activities are for ages 4 and up.

We felt very comfortable inside with their safety protocols. Temperatures were checked before entering. Everybody ages 4 and up must wear a mask. Hand sanitizer was readily available throughout the entire space. If you're looking for a fun outlet for your child to explore, check it out!
