In our fast pace society, there are moments when I stop and think about everything going on. I’ll look at my calendar for the day and feel overwhelmed or even worse, look at my project deadlines and think, “is this all possible?” It doesn’t happen all the time but it happens enough for me to wanting to re-think my strategies and try to feel inspired again. Sometimes I feel like we are in a rat race just trying to get one project done to start another. A lot of these projects are things I can do with my eyes closed but I long for creativity and to think outside the box. It’s easy to slump into a routine of not challenging yourself without even realizing.
Since I know I can’t be the only one who feels this way, I’ve come up with a few ways that we can feel inspired again. Whether you want to feel inspired to find creativity in your life, inspired to start a new project at home, inspired to start a new career or whatever it be, these can help you get to the next level.
Find TED Talks to encourage you. I listen to TED talks often when I’m working. I like to work with background noise. Instead of listening to music that I don’t care for, TED talks provide me with knowledge and expertise. You can either find TED talks by searching through their topics or choosing the “surprise me” option and allowing them to choose for you. Many times I will find myself listening to the most random talks about things that I don’t know about but they are all so inspiring.
Start a journal. I have lots of journals that I keep everywhere I go. Some are in my car, my office, my kitchen, my purse. I almost always have paper around me for me to write on. No matter if you’re writing long stories, your thoughts or a genius idea for your kid’s party, it’s great for creativity.
Disconnect. Considering I make all my money online, it’s hard for me to put down my phone or to ignore my email for a day. Let me know tell you, when I disconnect for the day, it’s amazing and extremely stress free. I’m not constantly thinking about work or if someone replied to my email. It’s a bit freeing which is why cruises are one of my favorite ways to vacation. It forces me off of my all my tech devices.
Attend a conference. I don’t always go to conferences to actually learn something. Many of the conferences are full of info that we already know, but the beauty of conferences is being able to connect with like minded people. For example, not everybody understands blogging, many people don’t think I actually ‘work’ or that I play on Facebook all day. I know when I go to these conferences, I’ll be with people who get me. They know that I might be on Facebook but I’m working on my client’s accounts. They know that I stay up and work late nights because of clients asking for unreasonable deadlines, they get it. I don’t have to explain anything to them. I always leave conferences feeling inspired.
