How to Make SkittIe Vodka

How to Make Skittle Vodka #DIY #gift

Skittle Vodka is an easy way to give any ordinary vodka an extra kick. I came across this gem on Pinterest and knew I had to try it. Surprisingly, it’s extremely simple and doesn’t take much time. Skittle Vodka is not only delicious, it has the WOW factor. It smells like skittles, and taste like skittles – maybe better. What more can you ask for?

Supplies you will need to make skittle vodka:

  • 5 empty plastic bottles
  • One 1.75 liter bottle of vodka – you do not need the most expensive vodka but I wouldn’t recommend the cheapest vodka you find. (Side note: Infusing Vanilla flavored Vodka would be delicious)
  • 1 pound bag of Skittles
  • Coffee filters or paper towels
  • A funnel
  • 5 flasks or bottles to store your final drink
  • Measuring cup
  • Bowls for separating Skittles

Step one: Separate Skittles by Flavor

Take your bag of skittles and separate the entire bag by flavors. You’re allowed to eat a few but make sure there are plenty left for infusing. The more skittles that you use, the better your vodka will taste.

Step two: Set up your Infusion Bottles

You should have 5 empty bottles that have been rinsed out and dry that are ready to use for infusion bottles. To store my final Skittle Vodka, I bought a spice rack from World Market that has 6 bottles that have cork tops. Although there are only 5 Skittle flavors, I used the 6th bottle to fill with regular vodka. The spice bottles came with a carrier and only costs $14.99. This is a great option if you are planning to give these as a gift. Not only will your friend or family member receive delicious Skittle Vodka, they will also be receiving Spice bottles to use once the Skittle Vodka is gone.

Since everybody’s flasks will be different sizes, I recommend pouring your handle of vodka equally into each of the flasks. Pour a little extra into each flask so when you filter the vodka you will have the perfect amount. Once you have measured out the amount of vodka you want in each flask, use your funnel to pour the allotted amount into your infusion bottles.

Step three: Drop in the Skittles

Take your 5 different bowls of Skittle flavors and one by one, add the skittles to the infusion bottles. Use your funnel by putting it on top of the vodka filled bottles and drop them in easily. Do this with each Skittle flavor until you have done all 5 flavors. I recommend using the funnel other than your hands because the flavor and color coating on the Skittles can rub off of your hands but it won’t on your plastic funnel.

Step four: Shake ’em, Shake ’em goooooood

You will start the notice that the first flavor that you dropped in is already starting to infuse the vodka. Take each bottle one by one and start shaking. The more you shake, the better. You will notice that the coloring if coming off of the Skittles and you are left with the white insides. The Skittles will need to sit in the alcohol for a few hours. Shake as often as possible.

I let my Skittles sit overnight. You will start to notice white muck inside the bottles. Don’t worry this is normal and we will take care of it in a later step.

Step five: Filter the Skittle Vodka

This part can be a little tricky. There are more than one ways to filter the vodka. This step can be a little messy, so you may want to put down some paper towels before starting. I used coffee filters placed inside of my flasks to filter out the musk. I changed out my coffee filters often to make sure they were doing the best job possible. This took a little bit of time (maybe 15 minutes) but be patient. When you are taking shots of the Skittle Vodka later, you don’t want to be drinking the musky part that wasn’t filtered.

If you are using a flask that has a larger opening then you won’t be able to simply put the coffee filter in and filter it easily. To filter your vodka, place your funnel inside your flask. Once it is in place, set your coffee filter (or paper towel) in the funnel and start pouring your Skittle Vodka. Pour slowly and change out your filter often.

Repeat the filter process with each flavor. If after you have filtered your vodka and it still has a musky look, then re-filter it.

Step six: Chill and enjoy

It’s time to enjoy your Skittle Vodka. Chill in the freezer and have a drink or two. Drink your Skittle Vodka as a martini, as a shot or with a mixer.  Your Skittle Vodka will be very sweet, so if  sweet drinks aren’t your thing, try mixing with Coke to cut the sweetness.

Let me know of any suggestions for Skittle Vodka! Enjoy and have a drink for me!

It is, they taste just like skittles. So delicious but dangerous because it's straight vodka!

Interesting. Wonder how it would go over as a "virgin" drink though since I don't drink alcohol. Sounds delicious otherwise. 🙂

That's a good question, I'll have to do some research. It was amazing how the skittles were completely eaten away by the liquor.

I'm 100% sure it has something to do with welcoming Myles into this world during the height of a pandemic and keeping a toddler alive at the same time. I can't wait for Christmas morning to make memories with my little family (even though Christmas shopping isn't complete and I haven't even thought about wrapping presents). It will all fall in to place, it always does. We didn't attend our favorite Christmas events this year or get pictures with Santa so this random Santa picture will do and I'm 100% happy with it. If this year has taught you anything, let it be finding the joy in the little things ❤
