Healthy and Fresh Finds at Modern Market

Blog· Food and Drinks

My husband and I both work from home so every day when lunch time comes around, I’m asking “what should we eat?” My husband could eat a sandwich every single day for lunch, but I can’t. I like to mix things up and I’m not a huge fan of eating the same thing for lunch every single day – unless it’s Mexican food.

We don’t eat out every day but when we do, we usually will venture to restaurants that offer healthy dining options because as we all know, eating out is not usually the healthiest option. I’ve eaten at Modern Market a few times but to be completely honest, it has been almost 2 years since I’ve been back. We were given a gift card to try Modern Market and they opened a location at City Line in Richardson so it was the perfect chance to give it another try. I couldn’t wait to start adding it to my list of lunch spots that my husband and I ventured to.

If you’re unfamiliar with Modern Market, they’re all about providing delicious scratch made food. Their food philosophy can be summed up perfectly with a quote from Michael Pollan – “Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.”

Their menu has something for everybody. My husband loves lots of meat and I love lots of vegetables so we’re usually eating two opposite meals. Modern Market offers salads, sandwiches, soups and homestyle dishes so no matter what you’re in the mood for, there is something for you.

Modern Market showcases the calorie count for all items on their menu which I love. It really makes you think twice about what you’re consuming. It’s also an eye opener because some items I thought would have tons of calories have much less than I thought. It’s a great way to learn about food and what you are putting in your body.

My husband ordered the Chipotle Steak sandwich and I ordered the BLT. We thought it would be a good idea to try out the sides and let’s be real – who can pass up mac and cheese? You can see on the break down on the receipt of the calories for each dish and the sides. I was completely shocked my bacon, lettuce and tomato had more calories than my husbands steak sandwich.

The Chipotle Steak Sandwich has grilled flank steak, spicy chipotle aioli, mixed greens, asiago cheese, and tomato on Izzio’s ciabatta.

We had no idea the sandwiches would be so large. The sandwiches are also offered in half portions which is definitely what I’ll be ordering next time around so I can enjoy my sides without feeling too full.

The Arugula and blue cheese salad was delicious and the perfect addition to any meal. It is served with arugula, red onion, gorgonzola cheese tossed in lemon maple vinaigrette and it’s only 100 calories!

Modern Market also offers sweets that were so tempting. These Oatmeal Cranberry cookies looked amazing but I was so full from my meal that I had to pass. I’ll know next time to order the correct portions so I can indulge in a treat without feeling guilty.

Modern Market has 29 locations in the United States. If you’re looking for a place to eat that is healthy, hearty and will leave you feeling guilt free, check them out. You’ll love what they have to offer.

I know this year has dragged on and on for many pe I know this year has dragged on and on for many people but it has flown by to me. I'm 100% sure it has something to do with welcoming Myles into this world during the height of a pandemic and keeping a toddler alive at the same time. I can't wait for Christmas morning to make memories with my little family (even though Christmas shopping isn't complete and I haven't even thought about wrapping presents). It will all fall in to place, it always does. We didn't attend our favorite Christmas events this year or get pictures with Santa so this random Santa picture will do and I'm 100% happy with it. If this year has taught you anything, let it be finding the joy in the little things ❤
The holidays are quickly approaching! 🎄 Althoug The holidays are quickly approaching! 🎄 Although things might be a bit different this season, we're still enjoying some of our favorite foods and traditions. This year we're incorporating ordering family meal kits from @chuysrestaurant for not only my family but extended family that we might not be able to hang with this holiday. It's a simple way to spread the joy with loved ones, eat delicious food and not forget the reason for the season. #ad #nachoaverageholiday
Family pictures are always so much fun.... this ye Family pictures are always so much fun.... this year we got to attempt it twice thanks to sweet Bryce. Thankfully the second time around he cooperated. As painful as they may be, I'm so glad we get these done every year. I love looking back at them and see how much we've all changed and how much the kids have grown!
Can y'all believe the end of the year is here? We Can y'all believe the end of the year is here? We got our family pictures back and they look great other than the fact that Bryce decided not to participate. We got one shot with my entire family and Bryce is off to the side playing in poison ivy. 🤦‍♀️

Your child gets to fully immerse themselves into role playing any job they can imagine. From checking animals at the veterinarian, putting out fires as a firefighter, flying planes in an simulator, creating their own personal logo with Bic, or being a weatherman at WFAA - the options are endless! Kidzania activities are for ages 4 and up.

We felt very comfortable inside with their safety protocols. Temperatures were checked before entering. Everybody ages 4 and up must wear a mask. Hand sanitizer was readily available throughout the entire space. If you're looking for a fun outlet for your child to explore, check it out!
