March Madness is in full effect around my house. As much as I would love to watch the games, I usually spend most of my time preparing to entertain guests and making delicious food to share with everyone. I usually spend a lot of time on Pinterest collecting ideas and prepping menus on what to make but instead I had a simple idea. Why not make a dish that looks like a basketball? I knew it would fit in perfectly with March Madness so I went for it.
I decided to make a Pepperoni Pierogie Pizza, it would not only be simple but I knew everybody would love it. Not only was the dish delicious, it was so easy to make!
I used one full box of Mrs. T’s Potato and 4 Cheese Pierogies. Any type of Mrs. T’s pierogies will work for this dish, just choose whichever one you like the most! I boiled the pierogies for approximately 10 minutes. You know they are done boiling when they start floating to the top. Once they are complete, drain the pierogies. Grab a 8 or 9 inch round pan and grease the bottom. Place each pierogie one by one into the pan. I lined the flat side of the pierogie towards the edge of the pan and the rounded portion towards the inside, then layered the pierogies on top of each other.
Next, I used approximately half a cup of spaghetti sauce for my pizza sauce. I only added it to the top of my pierogies mainly because I don’t like a lot of sauce on my food. If you do like a lot of sauce, add more to your liking.
Use approximately 1 cup of cheddar cheese to cover all of the pierogies and spaghetti sauce. You can use any other type of cheese but cheddar is the best option to get the orange color that is similar to a basketball.
Now it’s time to cut the pepperonis. I cut each pepperoni into 5 pieces. Two pieces from each side and three in the middle.
If you are like me, you are going to want to eat the two side pieces of the pepperoni but we will be using them so hold off if you can.
I used the three pieces from the middle of the pepperoni and made a cross on the circle, then used the outside pieces to make two semi circles. I had some left over pepperoni pieces so I went over some of the pieces on the pierogies and doubled up on meat. Let’s be real, who doesn’t love extra pepperonis?
The Pepperoni Pierogie Pizza cooked at 365 degrees for approximately 10 minutes. It tasted exactly like pepperoni pizza and was devoured by everyone in less than 10 minutes. Needless to say, I should have made at least one more to keep everyone happy.
Pierogies are our go to meal at my house because they are so simple to make and you can add any type of ingredient or meat to them and it always tastes amazing. It’s a great versatile food to either add to your meal or make as a main dish.
