Growing up in Texas is a blessing. I’m a proud Texan, like the majority of people who live here. What does being a Texan mean? I wish I could sum it up in a few words (or even paragraphs) but it’s not that simple. It’s a lifestyle.
I could name thousands of reasons why I love Texas. Instead of listing them all, I’ve gathered a list of items that I love about Texas and I’m sure you will agree!Dallas Cowboys: Is there even another national football team in Texas? Didn’t think so. We live and breathe the Boys and wait anxiously for Cowboy’s season to begin. Not to mention, it’s always nice to see former players around Dallas. (Oh hey, Troy!)
Amazing Sunsets: I’m not one to stare at nature and think of how beautiful it is, but there is something about Texas sunsets that gets me every time. The open skies are perfect to look at God’s creation every night.
Queso: We don’t mess around when it comes to queso. There are even blog posts dedicated to where you can find the best.

Bluebonnets: The official flower of Texas is a show stopper, well I should say car stopper. You’ll see cars lined up on the highway pulled over near bunches of bluebonnets so families can stop and take pictures of themselves in the fun flowers. Don’t you dare pick them or even think to mow them over – it’s illegal!
Southern Charm: It’s no joke, southern kindness is like nothing I’ve ever experienced. I have traveled near and far and nothing beats a southerner and their sweetness. I worked with a lady once who had just moved down from New York. She was 6 months pregnant and walking around North Park. She complained to me that “so many people stopped me out of no where to touch my belly and to talk.” She had never experienced how Texans will talk to anyone about anything.
Sweet Tea: It’s a very rare occurrence to meet a Texan who doesn’t drink sweet tea. When my mother taught me how to make it, there was no such thing as measuring the sugar. You would literally pick up the sugar jar and pour the sugar into the boiling water until it was about an inch thick. I never thought anything of it til someone from out of state asked if I accidentally spilled too much sugar in my tea. (They’re crazy!)
Mexican Food: I can eat Mexican food for every single meal. Most don’t call it Mexican Food but “Tex-Mex.” To be honest, I don’t care what you call it just make sure there will be plenty of chips and salsa!

Shopping Mecca: The idea that I can drive 5 miles and hit three malls makes my heart happy. You don’t have to go far to get some great shopping whether you are visiting North Park Mall or the San Marcos Outlets. There’s something for everybody.
Cowboy Boots: Going out shopping? Heading to a formal? Meeting your friends for coffee? Texans wear cowboy boots with everything. They are my ‘go-to’ pair of shoes.
Everything is bigger here: This isn’t a joke. Everything is bigger in Texas – our houses, our cars, our festivals – you name it and it’s bigger!

Country Music: No matter if it’s your first choice of music or not, every Texas knows their fair share of country songs and can sing every single word.
Water straight from the spring: Ozarka® Brand Natural Spring Water is made in Texas, for Texans and its (very) lucky neighboring states. While other waters may want to travel the world, Ozarka is the water for Texas. We don’t drink anything but Ozarka in our household and there is a good reason why! We love our water to be crisp, clean and to know where it’s coming from! Did you know you can actually visit the springs? I know where my next road trip will be!
A big part of what Ozarka does for Texas is to preserve the natural beauty of the land by taking the right steps in managing their spring sites in Texas.

Texas slang: I love Texas slang, most the time you don’t even realize you have quirky sayings until someone that’s not from the South points it out. Some of my favorites are “all hat and no cattle,” “fixin’ to,” and “big as hell and half of Texas.”
Texas Rangers: Yep, you know I can’t finish the list without adding another Texas team. My husband watches every single game during the year. (Yall – there are almost 170 games.) We like to go out before the game to the Texas Stadium, enjoy the day and tailgate!
These are just a few of my favorite things about Texas. Some of these things may be small, some may be big but we can all agree it’s what makes Texas the best!

Born and raised in Dallas, Texas. Someone forget the horses and more trucks in Texas than any other state? How about good old BBQ and steak? Chili cook offs? Visitors always welcome, just be good and polite because we all own guns!
