Holiday season is full of events, whether it be catching up with old friends or a holiday party. No matter where you go, you always want to look your best but I realize that it’s sometimes hard to always put on your best face when you’re so busy. I don’t know how the moms out there do it. I have no kids or any one to worry about but myself and I still can’t always get it together. There are a few things that I do to make sure that I look my best this holiday season.
Get plenty of sleep.
This is probably the hardest one for me. I stay up working way too late which leaves me only a few hours of sleep a night. I notice the more sleep i get a night, the more productive I am the next day. My goal for 2014 is to set a sleep schedule and stick to it. That means no electronics after a certain time, no phone in my bedroom and an alarm clock that is across the room that will force me to wake up.
Wash your face every day.
It took me probably 23 years to figure out this one. I don’t know why I used to think it was so difficult to wash my face. I would sleep in my makeup and wake up the next day with a day old makeup looking like a hot mess. Washing your face gives you a fresh, renewed look that no make up can do for you. I use the Conair true glow Sonic Cleansing Brush every night. It uses sonic technology with a built in timer to gently and effectively remove the dead, dull layers to help purify and revive skin, unveiling a healthy glow in just 60 seconds! If you have trouble remembering to wash your face daily, make it a habit to wash your face every time you brush your teeth.
Drink plenty of water.
Water is beneficial to your body in so many ways. Drinking water helps maintain the balance of your body fluids, helps control calorie intake, gives you energy and makes your skin look good. Your skin contains plenty of water, and functions as a protective barrier to prevent excess fluid loss. Dehydration makes your skin look unhealthy, wrinkly and dry. If you don’t want to cut back on the number of sodas or coffee that you drink, try drinking a glass of water for every soda that you drink. This will help you maintain a good balance.
Take time to do your hair.
If my hair looks bad, I ultimately start feeling a little down. I believe that hair makes all the difference when it comes to presenting yourself. I wash my hair only a few times a week but every time I wash it, I take the time to properly blow dry it and style it. A good blow dry will make all the difference in what your hair looks like. (See below for tips on styling your hair this holiday season.)
Invest in good colored lip gloss.
When I look back at pictures, I notice that women always look better when they have a little shine or color on their lips. You don’t have to buy the most expensive lip gloss but invest in lip gloss that works best with your skin color and the time of year. Don’t wear bright pink lip stick in the dead middle of winter, go with a more warm color.
I want to add a few more tips for styling your hair this holiday season. I have very long and thick hair so if I don’t style it, my hair will look like a total mess. My hair is naturally wavy and to be honest, I don’t know how to style it wavy so I always blow dry, curl or straighten it. I’ve learned a few tricks of the trade throughout the years and I want to share them with you.
Purchase a good blow dryer. You want to use a blow dryer that has heat control settings and attachments. I use the Infiniti Pro by Conair® Hair Designer which I love. It has a 3-in-1 styling attachment that eliminates the need for a brush during drying and reduces styling time by up to 50%. Anything that saves me time is golden in my book. You can purchase the Infiniti Pro by Conair Hair Designer at Target for only $39.99 and it comes with a two-year warranty.
Make sure your hair is bone dry before curling. Your hair will not hold curl when it isn’t completely dry. Don’t even take the time to try because you’ll just be wasting time. Once you think your hair is dry, blow dry for an extra couple of minutes. Let your hair cool down after you blow dry it to prevent any damage.
When curling your hair with a curling iron, do not curl all of your curls the same way. Curl one strand one way, then the next strand should be curled the opposite way. This will help give your hair more volume and prevent your hair looking like it has been in a pony tail all day long. Notice my curls below, each one is going the opposite direction which gives it a more natural look.
Start your curl as close to your scalp as possible, this will help your curls stay in your hair longer. I make my curls very tight and close to my scalp so I don’t have to re-curl them the next day.
