I’ll admit, I am still a bit full from the last entry into my Brunch Files. I pressed on to The Mason Bar today to find out the scoop on the brand new Brunch offerings that began this weekend.
Seeing the space in daylight reminded me of how cozy and fun the cajun and rock’n’roll inspired joint is. Streams of sunlight poured through behind a packed bar area full of hungry brunchers, while the funky cool main dining room buzzed with those who might still be fighting off the effects of the night before.
Sticking with seasonal and local fresh fare for the menu, starter offerings include a Lamb’s Milk greek yogurt parfait with Zip Code Honey and candied pecans. Get this now. The tart, creamy yogurt balances out toasted granola and seasonal sweet-like-jam fruit. Don’t miss the fried polenta cakes with spicy creole tomato sauce either.
Plates of the Fancy Pancakes were streaming out to patrons, covered in a naughty amaretto syrup and orange marmalade bath that rivals grandmas jarred delicacy. Safe options include the Mason Brunch Burger, a brisket blend topped with a perfect fried egg & the Mason Omelet with Spicer’s Spinach and Ali’s Bacon Bliss Goat Cheese. An ancho pork benedict rounds out the mains.
We were treated for dessert with a slice of Key Lime Pie from local bakery Bake it to the Limit with a sweet and salty crust, lime zest beat straight into the whipped cream and a sinfully tart key lime custard. Grab me a pool chair and let me kick my feet up.
The Mason Bar is open for Brunch Saturday and Sunday from 11-2 for now! Prices range from $8 to $12.
Make your reservation and give those current brunch go-to’s a rest to get a taste of New Orleans goodness.
