Getting out of shape is so easy to do if you aren’t watching what you put into your body. Trust me, I know. I’ve learned very quickly that even if I work out often, it doesn’t mean that my body will stay nice and slim. It requires more work the older I get and I knew it was time to make a change.
The good news if that you don’t have to do anything crazy to get your life back on track if you let yourself go. Just make a few minor changes in your daily routine and you’ll be back to your self in no time. I’ve gathered a few things that have helped me get back in shape.
Keep Motivated – I know that after a few months of working out of eating healthy, I’ll start questioning why I’m even trying. Most of the time your results won’t be very noticeable, but don’t let that keep you down. Grab a workout buddy or head over to pinterest for some awesome motivational pictures. Whatever you do, don’t stop!
Drink Water – Instead of grabbing the coke, grab a water instead. I’m obsessed with Dr. Pepper. I could drink it all day and night but have to watch myself. It’s silly to consume 1200 calories in Dr. Pepper a day. To help ween myself off drinking so much, I started drinking a water in between each Dr. Pepper that I want. That way I still get my Dr Pepper fix but I don’t drink nearly as much.
Log your Food – Start writing down your food daily. Write down EVERYTHING even if you don’t want to. You know those M&M’s that you snuck during lunch? Log those too. At the end of the week, evaluate what you are eating and what you can change. Also, if you know you have to write it down, odds are you won’t grab that extra oreo during your break.
Track Your Fitness – I never realized how much I didn’t move during the day until I bought a fitness tracker. I am behind a computer all day with no reason to get up so I was getting minimal steps. I am too embarrassed to tell you how many steps I wasn’t getting but it was bad! Purchase an activity tracker like the Jawbone UP3. They are only $99 and will track your activity, sleep, log your food, give you insight on your heart health and has a built in smart coach. It’s stylish enough that you can wear it daily and not just when you’re working out. One of my favorite features is being able to team up and set goals with friends, or create duals and challenges for each other.
