Here is a list of my recommendations for fried foods you must try at the State Fair of Texas. No one prepares these flavorful, juicy, and irresistible dishes and treats like they do at the fair. Get ready, because this year they are adding some new fried foods that you have to try. Take a look!
Fernie’s Holy Moly Carrot Cake Rolly: Holy Moly is right. This dessert starts with a cinnamon bread that is flattened and filled with carrot cake, raisins, and carrots. After it gets a coating of cream cheese, it is then rolled up and breaded in panko, graham crackers, cinnamon, and nutmeg. It is dessert taken to an entire different level… this fried food won the 2015 Big Tex Choice Award.
Cowboy Corn Crunch: These tots are filled with corn, jalapeno, bacon, and cream cheese. It is the perfect fried food to devour at the fair. They are fried up and served in a paper cone which makes it easy to take with you as you walk around.
Chicken Fried Lobster: For the first year ever you can eat a gourmet meal of fried lobster tail with all of the fixings including champagne gravy!
Fried Beer Battered Buffalo: Here is your chance to eat an excellent quality of meet. The buffalo meat is flavored Texas style with mesquite smoke. It is coated with pequin chili pepper and crusted in Corn Nuts© before it is dunked in beer batter and fried to perfection.
Deep Fried Alligator Egg Nest: Cravin Cajun? This will be perfect for you. The alligator meat is mixed with cheese, onions, garlic, and jalapenos. Then fried and put on top of a bed of shoestring potatoes topped with chipotle sauce.
Lone Star Pork Handle: Get yourself a bone in pork chop that has been marinated in a pork rub before it is fried to perfection. Grab the handle and enjoy this finger food that was made with the help of bourbon barbecue glaze.
Pretzel Crusted Pollo Queso: Where spicy meets smooth. Shredded spicy chicken, Monterey Jack cheese, cream cheese, bacon, and Sriracha sauce is rolled into a ball and crusted with a pretzel breading before it is deep fried. Give it a dip in the jalapeno ranch sauce for extra spice.
Corn Dogs: There are also fried corn dogs available at the fair. This traditional fried food is a favorite for everyone, especially the kids. Want to spice it up a little? Dip a corn dog in a barbeque sauce instead of mustard or ketchup.
Fletcher’s Veggie Dog: Yep, you read that correct. Now everybody can enjoy the deliciousness of Flethchers! This is their first year serving them and it’s one of their smartest ideas. Note that the veggie corny dogs will only be available at the main Fletcher’s location next to Big Tex.
