If you’re like me, when you eat at your favorite restaurants you always order the same food. At every restaurant I have my favorite item and it takes a lot for me to order anything else. It’s a bad habit, I know. So I’m on a mission to break this habit and I started at Uncle Julio’s.
Uncle Julio’s launched a new taco menu and I knew it was the perfect chance to break my habit of always ordering their fajitas and to try something new. There is one tradition that I couldn’t break, I always have to order the table side guacamole at Uncle Julio’s. It’s made fresh at your table and it’s the best guac around.
Our waitress didn’t have to test my arm too hard when she told me about their fresh fruit margaritas made on the spot. When I went in, the margarita of the day was strawberry mint. I had to see what it was all about and I was not disappointed. The margarita was fresh and the perfect afternoon pick me up that I needed. Uncle Julio’s serves fresh margaritas daily and since the fruit varies with what is in season and what is in stock, you never know what type they might be serving. They serve all sorts from grapefruit to watermelon margaritas – also known as the perfect patio weather drink.
By this time, I was starving and ready to devour some tacos. I ordered the Cozumel Shrimp Tacos. The lunch portion included two tacos stuffed with seared shrimp, pinaeapple, mango-jicama slaw, and mango habanero sauce. I don’t think I’ve ever had tacos with so much flavor! Usually tacos are served with meat, cheese and onions which lack flavor but these were just the opposite.
My husband is obsessed with Carnitas tacos and was so excited they have been added to the menu. Not only were they delicious, they had a nice kick to them. The pulled pork tacos were toped with spicy red chile sauce, onions, cotija cheese and cilantro.
My favorite thing to learn about Uncle Julio’s latest editions is that everything is made from scratch, even the corn tortillas. Their flour tortillas have always been amazing, I know it’s because they made them in house. Their corn tortillas are nice and thick with lots of flavor.
There are a two more tacos that we didn’t try that have been added to the menu – grilled fish tacos and seared tuna tacos. The grilled tacos are served on homemade corn tortillas with grilled tilapia, shredded cabbage, pico de gallo, avocado crema. The spicy seared tuna tacos are served on homemade corn tortillas with spicy seared rare Ahi Tuna, mango-jicama slaw, and chipotle crema.
They have all of these tacos on their lunch and dinner menu so no matter when you visit Uncle Julio’s you can give them a try. Uncle Julio’s has lots of locations in the DFW area, find you closest location here.
