The Complete List of Library Storytimes in the Dallas Metroplex

Blog

Being a work at home mom to a toddler is such a blessing and chaotic all at the same time. Thankfully, my work schedule is very flexible so I’m able to spend a lot of time doing fun activities with Bryce throughout the week and work odd hours while he’s sleeping to make the best of both worlds. Before he started walking, I was constantly looking for fun mommy and me outings for us to participate in. I wanted him to get interaction with other babies and it didn’t hurt to meet other moms in the area that had children the same age as mine.

I started Mommy and Me Yoga when Bryce was 3 months and it was my saving grace. It was a time for me to workout each week, bring Bryce along and I met tons of moms with babies the exact same age as Bryce. As Bryce got older and more mobile, we had to stop doing our yoga classes because having babies run around pulling plugs, hitting newborns and climbing on your back isn’t very zen. I was on the hunt for another fun activity for us to do each week. I had heard storytime at the library was a blast, free and indoors which were 3 things that were high on my list.

We started attending storytime when Bryce was around 9 months and since the day we started going, it’s been one of his very favorite activities. I’ve had many people ask me what exactly we do at storytime and let me tell you, it’s much more than reading a few books. Every single library that we’ve attended has been very similar but different in their own ways. The storytime we attend weekly is 30 minutes long and has the same structure every single week.

Storytime is very interactive. Bryce is a busy toddler and trying to get him to do anything for more than 10 minutes is tough which is why I love storytime. We start each class with a couple fun songs that all the kids know. Almost every song has hand signs that go with it or the song will have your child sit on your lap and you will bounce your kid up and down throughout the song. All of the kids run around, dance and play throughout the whole class.

After a few songs, there is usually a children’s book passed out to each parent and kid to read. These board books take a couple minutes to read. Once we are complete, the librarian will pass out scarves or rattles for the kids to sing and dance with. After a couple fun songs, we will read another book then put away all books and props. The class ends with parachute fun and bubbles. The kids go crazy running around catching bubbles and playing under the parachute. It’s a great way for them to burn off all of that energy they have.

Storytime at the library has so many benefits and perks and I love that it is absolutely free! Did you know that you can attend other libraries in your area without even having a library card? That’s right, you can walk right into the library and attend storytime without signing in or giving them any of your info. This is a great way to fill up your calendar with free, fun activities for your little one.

(Please note: The only library that I have found in the Dallas metroplex that requires you to be a resident and obtain a library card is Richardson.)

Because I am all about story time, I’ve done lots of research and have compiled a list of all the storytimes in the Dallas metroplex so you can find them all in one place. Please note that there are usually a couple times a week divided by age. It’s important to take your child to the age appropriate session. Every library does it a little different so please double check before attending as they often change times and details for their location.
