Cooking and being in the kitchen is one of my favorite things hands down. I disappear into my own world while cooking which is one of the main reasons I do it as often as possible. Every couple of weeks I get into a cooking rut. It’s not that I don’t want to cook or make anything, it’s trying to figure out what to make. I do the same thing with snacks during the day. I’ll be starving and since I can’t think of anything to make, I’ll grab a nasty bag of chips or something that is incredibly unhealthy for me.
I’m trying to be better in the kitchen, so I’ve written down a few things that have helped me with healthy snacking.
Write down your favorite healthy snacks. I’ve started meal planning weekly before I go to the store. Not only has it saved me tons of money but it keeps me accountable for what I’m eating. It sounds silly, but since that worked so well, I started “snack planning,” I write down my favorite snacks and only buy those while at the store. This has helped me stop buying all the junk food that I don’t need.
Find snacks that are already prepped. Not only is this good for when you’re on the go, but it’s great for portion control. If items are already prepped, you can stop eating it at any time and don’t feel guilty about not finishing your whole snack. If your snacks aren’t prepped when you buy them, prep once you get home.
Carry snacks with you. I’m usually really good at making excuses about what I eat, but let’s be real – there should be no excuses. If you plan properly and think ahead, it’s easy to snack without binge eating! If your snack needs to be refrigerated, keep a lunch box with you in the car or at your desk. No excuses!
Keep a stock pile of snacks ready to eat. I’ve noticed if I have to look for something to eat, I won’t usually end up with something on the healthy side. It’ll be food filled with calories and no nutritional value.
Think in small portions. Our mind plays crazy tricks on us when it comes to food which is why many of us overeat. Our brain doesn’t register that we are full when we are so we tend to keep eating til we are stuffed and feeling ill. Wait, that’s just me?
Let me introduce you to Hillshire Snacking. – my go to for eating during the day.
I don’t eat enough iron in my diet and Hillshire Snacking fills that void. It’s a high quality meat snack that exceeds expectations and meets all my snacking needs. I keep these in my refrigerator at all times because everybody loves them. They are great when I’m on the go or if we have guests coming over unexpectedly. There are four flavor combinations of premium air dried salame, natural cheese and toasted rounds with a bit of sea salt.
Try one of these four combinations:
- Genoa Salame with Natural White Cheddar Cheese
- Wine-Infused Salame with Natural White Cheddar Cheese
- Italian Dry Salame with Natural Gouda Cheese
- Hot Calabrese Salame with Natural Gouda Cheese
If you want to take your snacking up a notch, chop up some romaine lettuce and serve a pack of Hillshire Snacking meats on top.
Not only is it delicious and nutritious, it only takes minutes to make and can be eaten as a whole meal. I love how I can make a package of Hillshire Snacking into a light snack, an appetizer for guests or even a full meal!
If you’re looking for the perfect snack, head to your local grocer and pick up a package of Hillshire Snacking. You can find it in the packaged meat department! Let me know what you think!
