How Winning an Auction Fed 2400 Meals to the Dallas Community

Blog· Events

Every Spring, one of our very favorite events takes place – Taste of the Cowboys. It’s a fun filled event that benefits North Texas Food Bank while incorporating the best NFL team ever – The Dallas Cowboys. At Taste of Cowboys, over 30 restaurants offer bites to eat. Everything from shrimp and grits to Ancho Braised Oxtail is served, not to mention there is an open bar for all to enjoy.

We skipped last year’s event because I had just delivered Baby Bryce and it was such a bummer. Bryce’s nursery is Dallas Cowboys themed and we were hoping to add a few items to his room from the incredible auction that is held every year. Upon arriving this year, we skipped eating any food until we checked out every item that was up for auction. We came across all sorts of great finds from a Bobby Boucher (yep, from The Waterboy) signed jersey to Blank Panther autographed movie sign to amazing dinners offered in Dallas for up to 20 people. Although all of those looked incredible, there was one item my husband couldn’t take his eyes off of – an autographed rookie of the year helmet from Dak Prescott.

We decided to bid on it. The autographed helmet has been on my husband’s wish list for quite some time and if we won, all proceeds would be going to North Texas Food Bank. After bidding, we walked around and grabbed some delicious food and had a few drinks.

As it got later and later, we kept watching our bid on the Dak Prescott helmet. We were in a limbo if we were going to make another bid if someone out bid us but figured we wouldn’t make a decision unless it happened. We had high hopes!

As 9pm rolled around, I looked at my phone and saw two magical words “You’ve Won!” After a few happy dances and high fives with surrounding people, we were able to cash out and claim our prize.

While my husband couldn’t wait to get his hands on the Dak Prescott helmet, I was stoked that our donation would be doing to help food deprived children in the Dallas Metroplex. One dollar provides meals for 3 people in the community with North Texas Food Bank. We were able to provide over 2400 meals by winning the auction.

The amount of food insecure people in our own neighborhoods is completely shocking. More than 800,000 people across NTFB’s 13-county service area are food insecure, that’s 1 in 6 people! North Texas Food Bank does an amazing job at helping provide food to those in need and with events like Taste of the Cowboys, they are able to do so much good in our community.

If you are unable to donate money to North Texas Food Bank, they are always looking for volunteers to help. Being able to donate your time is just as important as money.

One of my favorite things about 2020.... businesse One of my favorite things about 2020.... businesses adapting and making things work! I was recently introduced to @savageburritos and I'm in love. Savage Burritos is the love child of Uncle Julios so it you like UJ, you'll love Savage. They are a delivery only service offering burritos and bowls from select Uncle Julio kitchens in DFW. We ordered a variety of items from burritos, bowls, queso and more. Every single item was bursting with flavor. If you like spicy, I highly recommend the Nashville Hot Chicken Burrito. 🔥 Don't forget to add on a Margarita pop - nothing beats alcohol and Mexican food delivered straight to your door!

I know this year has dragged on and on for many pe I know this year has dragged on and on for many people but it has flown by to me. I'm 100% sure it has something to do with welcoming Myles into this world during the height of a pandemic and keeping a toddler alive at the same time. I can't wait for Christmas morning to make memories with my little family (even though Christmas shopping isn't complete and I haven't even thought about wrapping presents). It will all fall in to place, it always does. We didn't attend our favorite Christmas events this year or get pictures with Santa so this random Santa picture will do and I'm 100% happy with it. If this year has taught you anything, let it be finding the joy in the little things ❤
The holidays are quickly approaching! 🎄 Althoug The holidays are quickly approaching! 🎄 Although things might be a bit different this season, we're still enjoying some of our favorite foods and traditions. This year we're incorporating ordering family meal kits from @chuysrestaurant for not only my family but extended family that we might not be able to hang with this holiday. It's a simple way to spread the joy with loved ones, eat delicious food and not forget the reason for the season. #ad #nachoaverageholiday
Family pictures are always so much fun.... this ye Family pictures are always so much fun.... this year we got to attempt it twice thanks to sweet Bryce. Thankfully the second time around he cooperated. As painful as they may be, I'm so glad we get these done every year. I love looking back at them and see how much we've all changed and how much the kids have grown!
Can y'all believe the end of the year is here? We Can y'all believe the end of the year is here? We got our family pictures back and they look great other than the fact that Bryce decided not to participate. We got one shot with my entire family and Bryce is off to the side playing in poison ivy. 🤦‍♀️

Your child gets to fully immerse themselves into role playing any job they can imagine. From checking animals at the veterinarian, putting out fires as a firefighter, flying planes in an simulator, creating their own personal logo with Bic, or being a weatherman at WFAA - the options are endless! Kidzania activities are for ages 4 and up.

We felt very comfortable inside with their safety protocols. Temperatures were checked before entering. Everybody ages 4 and up must wear a mask. Hand sanitizer was readily available throughout the entire space. If you're looking for a fun outlet for your child to explore, check it out!
