Having seven nieces and nephews make buying Christmas presents tricky. Not only do I have a lot to buy for but they range in all ages and they seem to have anything and everything they could possibly want. The younger kids are easy to buy for. They like everything that I get them no matter what it is. I could buy them a pair of socks and they would be completely happy. The older kids take a little bit more thinking on my part. I have to make sure the gift is age appropriate, something they would enjoy and something that would ensure that I stay their favorite aunt.

After making a visit to Bass Pro Shop to visit the Winter Wonderland, I knew exactly what I was going to get my oldest niece and nephew.

20141202_202427They would each be receiving a Daisy BB Gun. Before purchasing, I called their parents and made sure it was a suitable gift and they agreed that the kids would love it.

Once I got the okay to buy, I grabbed two 75th Anniversary Edition Red Ryder BB Pink and 880 model so each kid would have their own.  There were lots of these guns near the Winter Wonderland but I wanted to get all the accessories to match, which I found upstairs in the hunting section.

20141202_203107We bought a pair of Daisy Safety Glasses and ammo for each kid. Quinn and I wanted to keep our title of Best Aunt and Uncle and I have no doubt the kids think anything different. Let’s be real, we’re buying them new BB guns!

20141202_203737So the next day, my sister brought over her two oldest kids so we could give them their Christmas presents early (and so we could shoot a few rounds).  The kids were not only excited but they couldn’t wait to get their hands on the gun. Before they were allowed to touch the guns, we went over a few ground rules.  Daisy educates roughly one million of America’s youth a year through their Ten Lesson Shooting Curriculum about BB gun use and safety ( found here).

Everyday Fun with Daisy BB Guns

Here are a few tips to share with your kids while shooting:

  • Always keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction.
  • Always keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot.
  • Treat every gun as if it were loaded.
  • Only load or cock a gun when you are shooting.
  • Check your target and beyond your target.
  • Shooters and those observing a shooter should wear shooting glasses and stand behind the shooter.
  • Never climb or jump with a loaded gun.
  • Avoid Ricochet. Never shoot at a flat hard surface or at the surface of water.
  • Keep the muzzle clear of obstruction.
  • Guns not in use should always be on safety, unloaded and stored separately from ammunition.

To make shooting fun, I made a DIY Shooting range out of a half pallet.  I didn’t want them shooting at the fence, so the pallet was the perfect fence protector. I bought these paper targets at Bass Pro Shop, but there are plenty free printables available online. I simple stapled each target to the pallet once so it was easy to tear off.

diy shooting rangeNow we’re ready to shoot! The kids agreed to the rules and we’re ready to get their hands on the Daisy BB guns. We took turns and one by one they shot at our DIY Shooting Range.

_MG_3353It was determined that Quinn and I are the best aunt and uncle and the Daisy BB Guns were the coolest Christmas presents that we could have bought for our niece and nephew.  If you’re looking for an awesome present for your kids, skip over to Bass Pro Shop and check out all of Daisy’s products.

Every girl needs to learn how to shoot! And you can’t get much better than a Daisy! I had one up until a couple years ago, and it’s about time for my girls to have one! So awesome!

More power to you for buying them all a gift. We don’t do that anymore because the family got… and is getting too big. Looks like an awesome gift to give those big kids though!

I have 18 nieces and nephews who would be all over “auntie” for this one. Every one of them grew up in the country knowing how to shoot guns safely. This would be something awesome for them. I mean over the top awesome.
