Tips for Working From Home

Blog

Working from home is amazing, but it’s not for everyone. When I tell people I work from home, I feel like many don’t think I do anything or that I sit around and watch TV all day which is completely incorrect. Not only do people question your job when you’re working from home, you have to be very organized to get things done. Work from Home Tips

I’m not the most organized person. I know where everything is and what I need to do but if you saw my hone office, you would probably have a heart attack. It doesn’t work for everyone, but I know where everything is and that’s all that matters.

To help make sure I get everything done that I need to each day, I have a few “rules” that help me work from home with ease.

Work From Home Tips

Each day, I get dressed instead of working in my pajamas. Sure, there are days that I’ll hang out in my pajamas for a few hours but by lunch time I make sure I am completely dressed. This helps me mentally.

Make a to-do list daily. Everyday I have a goal and I make sure that I finish that goal no matter what. The goal can be to respond to all my important emails or finish 3 blog posts. It varies each day but it helps me stay on track.

Have a designated work area. I use one of our spare bedrooms as my office. It is a space where I keep everything I need for work. When I sit down in my office, I know it’s time for work because of the atmosphere I’ve created.

Everyday before or after lunch, I take my dogs for a walk. It’s a great way to stay moving and to allow my dogs to release all of their energy. This makes me feel good and makes my dogs tired so they aren’t wanting to play all day.

Enjoy your flexibility but know your boundaries. It’s extremely easy to go to the mall for the day and hang out but at the end of the day, you’re be a day behind in work. It’s not worth it. Grab lunch of coffee with a friend but don’t abuse your flexibility.

Invest in good equipment to better your job. As a blogger, I am behind a computer most of the day. If I’m not behind my computer, I’m behind my phone. It’s crazy how fast I go through my computers and cell phones. I’m not hard on them, I am just constantly using them.

I decided to have 2 laptops; one I keep at home and the other I take with me on the go. I already a great computer for my home office so I’ve been on the search for a great laptop that can travel with me.

I’m not too picky, but I do have some requirements for my new laptop. Here’s what I’m looking for:

  • Light laptop that wasn’t too heavy.
  • Something that can easily fit into my purse or travel bag
  • It needs to be an actual laptop, not tablet
  • Very durable, something that won’t break during my travels
  • Built in webcam

Nothing too crazy, right? I wasn’t too worried about price point, as long as the laptop had all the necessary items I was looking for. I headed to Best Buy to check out all the computers. They have a little bit of everything and I love that I’m able to play with all the computers before buying!

20151110_165231_HDRIt took no time before I knew I wanted the Toshiba Satellite Radius 2-in-1 Touch Screen laptop. Not only was it the perfect size but it is a 360 degree design and offers 5 viewing modes. Choose from laptop, audience, tabletop, presentation and tablet modes, so you can easily stay productive on your own or collaborate with colleagues.
