Local Love: Primo Brothers Pizza

Blog· Food and Drinks

I have a challenge for you this week. Eat at a local eatery at least once during the week. Ditch the fast food joints and the chain restaurants and head to a local restaurant that you maybe you’ve never been or a place that you’re wanting to try.

This week, I dined at Primo Brothers Pizza and instantly fell in love for many reasons. I grew up in a family of small business owners so I’m always trying to give back to small businesses and restaurants. I walked into Primo Brothers Pizza and knew from the start I was going to love it. It is a casual restaurant tucked away in a shopping center at Forest and Abrams. The atmosphere was perfect and you can tell that others felt the same way. Come as you are, bring a bottle of wine and enjoy a nice relaxing dinner. When I was trying to decide what to eat, I was overwhelmed with the menu because they offered so many options.

Primo Brothers Pizza Dallas TxEverything you can think of was on the menu; pizza, stuffed pizza, pastas, hot subs, dessert and more. Since I’m indecisive, the owner suggested a handful of items so we tried them all. To start the meal we had a delicious garden salad with house dressing.

Garden Salad with House Dressing - Primo Brothers PizzaI don’t know what it is but salads at Italian restaurants are always the best. I think it’s the fresh, homemade dressing that makes them so delicious. I noticed that Primo Brothers calamari won multiple awards, so naturally, I had to try it. The calamari was the perfect size, not too big, not too small. They were very tender, lightly breaded and fried just the right amount.   Calamari at PRimo Brothers Pizza

Calamari at PRimo Brothers Dallas TxI’m not going to lie, at this point I was already full. The calamari was enough to share with a table of four. We ordered a specialty pizza that won’t be around forever but it a Primo special for this time of year. The Oktoberfest pizza honestly didn’t sound that great when it was explained to us, but we had to try it. I’m glad we did, because it was a table favorite.  The Oktoberfest Pizza had everything you would expect it to have including diced potatoes, sauerkraut, bacon, Gouda cheese, bratwurst, red onions and topped with green onions once it’s baked. Primo Brothers makes a homemade currywurst sauce for this specific pizza that is out of this world.

Oktoberfest Pizza Primo Brothers Dallas We also ordered the supreme pizza because that is our usual pizza order. It’s always good to compare your favorite pizza at different spots. The Brother Supreme Pizza has a little bit of everything – Pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, green peppers, black olives, onions and extra cheese.

Supreme Pizza Dallas TxJust when I thought I couldn’t eat anymore, we decided to try one more thing. I didn’t feel like we could leave Primo Brothers without trying their pasta so we ordered the Shrimp Scampi. Their Shrimp Scampi is a bit different from other shrimp scampis but I really liked it. Plump shrimp was basted in a white wine, lemon butter, garlic and creamy basil marinara sauce. The Shrimp was packed with flavor which took the dish up a notch.

After a few bites of the scampi, I knew I wouldn’t be able to eat anymore because I was so full. We ended up taking the food home to eat on during the week.  Little did we know, we would be feeding the my in-laws and neighbors that night. Everybody wanted to try Primo Brothers pizza and the scampi that we brought home and all of our left overs were devoured within minutes. Our neighbors and family loved every bite and it was apparent when all of the food was gone.

I’m looking forward to my next visit to Primo Brothers to try even more of their menu. Have you been before?

I’ve been going to Brothers Pizza (Primo Brothers) since the early 80’s when they opened up. The family is great and the food is outstanding. Make it your regular spot for pizza/pasta and you won’t be disappointed
