5 Must Try Items at Start Restaurant

Blog· Food and Drinks

This past year was the first time that I really sat and thought about all the horrible foods that I put into my body. I know I should have thought about it a long time ago but it finally hit me how many nasty preservatives and gunk we ingest on a daily basis. I’m not a health freak but I definitely think twice about what I’m eating. I still have a horrible Dr. Pepper addiction that I need to kick, but we can talk about that later.

Start Restaurant - Lemmon Avenue

One of the hardest things for me about eating healthy is finding healthy food fast. I’m always on the go so cooking a healthy meal isn’t always an option. Start opened their newest location off of Lemmon Avenue so I thought I would go in and see what they had to offer.

I tried most of the menu and loved every bite. I love that every bite I took I was able to actually taste the ingredients. Unlike nasty fast food, Start uses organic eggs, milk, yogurt, and sugar. They don’t even a fryer. This shocked me the most because they had the best sweet potato tots I have ever eaten. I couldn’t choose just one item that I loved the most so I wanted to share my top 5 items you must eat at Start Restaurant.

1.  Start Burger

Burger at Start RestaurantWe instantly fell in love with the Start Burger. Not only is it large, we loved that it was 100% grass fed beef. Topped with romaine, tomato, dijonnaise, red onion, avocado, white cheddar and applewood smoke bacon – how could you go wrong?  No body said you had to suffer when eating healthy and this burger proves it.

2. House-Made Hummus

Hummus at Start RestaurantNothing beats homemade hummus. Start’s hummus could have been my whole entire meal but I had to force myself to stop eating it. It had the perfect flavor. I chose to eat it with pita chips instead of Naan. If you’re ever looking for a great snack during a busy day, swing through their drive-thru and get this!

3. Maine Root Sodas

Maine RootRemember that Dr. Pepper habit I mentioned above? This is a great alternative. The doppleganger soda is comparable to Dr. Pepper but it isn’t loaded down with all the bad stuff. Maine Root is sweetened with 100% fair trade certified  cane sugar. I could drink it all day, every day.

4.  Turkey and Raspberry Chipotle Wrap

Turkey and Raspberry Chipotle Wrap at Start RestaurantWhen the turkey and raspberry chipotle wrap was suggested to me, I wasn’t too interested. To be honest, I probably wouldn’t have ordered it unless someone told me to. I’m not a big raspberry fan but I was completely shocked after trying the wrap. It’s like nothing I’ve ever had. Inside the wrap was spinach, turkey, carrots, apples, reduced fat cream cheese pecan spread with raspberry chipotle sauce. This is the perfect meal to get a dose of all your daily veggies.

5. Clementine Cakeclementine cake at Start Restaurant dallasUsing a whole clementine, the beauty is made. Clementines aren’t a favorite of mine so I was reluctant when trying to this but after the first bite, I was in love. I may have finished this whole bad boy by myself. It is not listed on the menu, but they do make this fresh daily. It’s my little secret to you. Thank me later.

Healthy food is virtually impossible to find at any drive-thru and I love that Start is changing that for us all! Start is a perfect example that healthy food doesn’t have to be boring or tasteless. Everything I’ve had from there is full of flavor and adds ingredients that I usually wouldn’t get into my daily food intake.

If you’re curious what they use and don’t use, check out their site for a full list. Next time you’re looking for a healthy alternative to fast food, stop by Start or drive thru for a meal on the go. If you’ve been to Start, what is your favorite item on the menu?
