Every month, I meet with some of my favorite Dallas blogger babes for lunch. It’s a meeting of the minds, we talk about what’s going on with our blogs, issues we’re having and come up with fun new ideas. It’s been a great way to keep ourselves energized and constantly growing. We like to make our way to different restaurants in Dallas and this month we decided upon Casa Komali.
Casa Komali is located on Cole Avenue and has been in Dallas for many years. It’s a local favorite and I couldn’t wait to enjoy a delicious lunch and bring my friends along. Upon arriving, I found out that one of my friends doesn’t love mexican food and the other doesn’t eat chips and salsa. I questioned why I’m friends with them – completely kidding but I was shocked. How do you live in Texas and not enjoy the two things I live for?
I felt a little bad bringing them to eat Mexican food but I enjoyed all the chips and salsa my heart could desire. After we talked about it, I realized a couple things; they were both Texas transplants and they haven’t had the good stuff yet. After my worrying, I knew that I brought them to the right place to try some real Mexican food in Dallas.
Like every good meal, we started with queso and guacamole. The guacamole was so fresh and I loved that it was a large serving that fed four of us with no issues.
The Queso Fundido was by far my favorite thing I ate all day. The queso is melted Oaxaca and Chihuahua cheeses topped with chorizo, poblano peppers, and roasted cactus with house-made tortillas. Casa Komali has a lady come in every morning to make tortillas and let me tell you, they were delicious.
The Queso Fundido was served piping hot and served to us by our waitress on the homemade tortillas. I could have eaten the whole entire bowl but had to save room for my actual meal.
Casa Komali’s menu is very simple and to the point. I love that it has all the basics and isn’t too overwhelming. Have you been a restaurant and the menu has 13 pages? It’s too much to consume or go through and let’s be real, most of us order the same food every time we go to our favorite restaurants.
Because I ate so much queso, guacamole and salsa, I opted for a trio of quesadillas. The trio included roasted garlic spicy chicken, grilled seasonal vegetables and braised brisket – all three were full of flavor and so good.
While we were finishing up lunch, we decided some coffee would be the perfect end to our meal. Not only were we stoked to find out Casa Komali serves kitchen but they partner with Ascension Coffee to bring the best around to their restaurant. It was the perfect end to a meal that we all enjoyed – even the ones who swore they didn’t like Mexican food!
