NRG Energy is the official energy partner of the Dallas Cowboys. NRG Energy has teamed up with six professional football teams to make their stadiums more sustainable. Can you guess which teams have teamed up with NRG?
I’ll give you a big hint – it’s not the Dallas Cowboys Stadium but hopefully in the future!
Lincoln Financial Field (Philadelphia Eagles)
At 3 MW of peak power, this project includes the largest solar array in the Philadelphia area, as well as in any pro football stadium. To protect against intense vibrations from fireworks launched after touchdowns, enhanced structural features were integrated into many of the framed solar panel modules. With visually attractive solar panel arrangements incorporated into stadium entrance areas, every visitor sees the team’s commitment to sustainable energy use.
Levi’s Stadium (San Francisco 49ers)
The 375kW installation provides enough power over the course of a year to offset the power consumed at the stadium during home games. The solar installation helped Levi’s Stadium become the first professional football stadium in the NFL to achieve LEED Gold certification. The NRG renewable energy solution can generate enough power in a year to meet electricity demand during every 49ers home game.
NRG Stadium (Houston Texans)
At NRG Park, they’ve included LED field lighting and four NRG Haven Solar Canopies. The structures are located on top of the bridges that span Kirby Drive, one will be located at the ticket booths on the south side of the venue, and one will be nestled in the new eVgo electric vehicle charging station lot. Their team also aims to install six eVgo electric vehicle charging stations at the park, which will become part of the eVgo network that supports charging needs for electric vehicle drivers at home, work, on the road, in their apartment community and even at the airport.
FedEx Field (Washington Redskins)
NRG Energy has teamed up with the Washington Redskins to put more than 8,000 solar panels at FedExField — making it the largest solar power installation in the metropolitan D.C. area. This entire innovative power system was implemented in three short months. More than 700 solar panels are incorporated into the stadium and ramp structure (525 conventional panels and 188 translucent panels)
MetLife Stadium (New York Jets/Giants)
Some 1,350 solar panels in 47 sections power the 916 LED fixtures on a mile-long track around the top of MetLife Stadium, home of the New York Football Giants and New York Jets. This signature Solar Ring can display team colors and additional hues to meet the needs of visiting events, including concerts and college sporting contests. With a full, game-day seating capacity of 82,500, MetLife Stadium is the largest stadium in the National Football League. It boasts numerous dining options and a rail line that drops fans and event-goers directly at the front door. During its inaugural year in 2010, MetLife Stadium was selected to host Super Bowl XLVIII and in 2014, the venue will become history’s first open-air venue in a cold-weather region to hold football’s biggest game.
Gillette stadium (New England Patriots)
At the home of the New England Patriots, a new solar canopy and rooftop panels nearly triple the solar power output at Patriot Place, an outdoor shopping and dining center next to Gillette Stadium. The new system consists of both standard and translucent solar panels that cover many of Patriot Place’s outdoor walkways, providing power and protecting guests from the elements. About 3,000 more panels was installed on an adjacent store’s roof.NRG has installed a jaw dropping 25,200 solar panels at professional football stadiums across the country!
Not only does NRG provide commitment to stadium sustainability but they’re a great company to use in your home also. From electricity service to electric vehicle charging, rooftop solar to home maintenance, NRG has all of your home energy needs covered. If you didn’t already see, they have a Dallas Cowboys Secure Advantage Plan that is the only electricity plan that comes with competitive pricing and special benefits designed just for Cowboys fans!
