Patriot Paws Provides Service Dogs to Disabled Veterans

Blog· Featured

The Hashtag Challenge is in full effect and I’m doing everything I can to help Patriot Paws win the grand prize. I’ve had many questions regarding the hashtag challenge, what it’s all about and why I’m supporting Patriot Paws.

#TeamStripes

Patriot Paws trains and provides service dogs of  their highest quality at no cost to disabled American veterans and others with mobile disabilities in order to help restore their physical and emotional independence.  The following are a list of some services provided to assist disabled veterans in accomplishing daily tasks that would otherwise be difficult or impossible:

  • Get help in emergencies
  • Recognize and avert PTSD episodes
  • Pick up and retrieve items
  • Open and close doors
  • Pull wheelchairs
  • Provide bracing to stand, walk, and sit down
  • Help with chores, such as laundry
  • Take off shoes and socks

It’s amazing to watch service dogs and to witness the amount of  help and support that they provide to the veterans who have all served for our freedom.  I recently got to speak with a representative at Patriot Paws who gave me even more reasons to shout my love for their organization.

Patriot PAWS recently entered into an agreement with the SPCA of Texas’ Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center in Dallas to evaluate rescued dogs as potential service dog candidates. Dogs meeting the criteria are fostered by Patriot PAWS for a time period of thirty days during which they receive basic foundation training and temperament testing. If a dog is deemed suitable to continue in the service dog program, the SPCA will donate it to Patriot PAWS free of charge, and if the dog is not deemed suitable, it will be returned to the SPCA having received basic training and a temperament evaluation making it potentially more adoptable to the general public. It’s a win-win situation for everyone (and every dog).

We’ll be tweeting and doing everything we can to help Patriot Paws win. Will you join us? Everyone who has their picture taken and uploaded with a Hashtag at the events will be entered to win a Country Fair VIP ticket package and the chance to help present the check to their chosen charity on stage during the Country Fair Concert!

What are you waiting for? Tweet #TeamStripes and add a picture of the GMC Sierra now for your chance to win and to help Patriot Paws!
