A Gem on Henderson: The Pearl Cup

Blog· Food and Drinks· Reviews

With four stars and over 150 reviews on Yelp, Pearl Cup Coffee is the most acclaimed coffee shop in Dallas. And yet, despite all they hype, it really is as good as everyone says it is. What makes Pearl Cup so great? The coffee. More than any other place in the Metroplex, Pearl Cup’s owners and staff dedicate themselves to delivering the best product imaginable.

Menu

The owners of Pearl Cup buy the highest-quality coffee blends, and the employees regard coffee-making as an art, rather than chore. The resulting product tastes great and looks amazing. Pearl Cup is one of the few places in Dallas that creates elaborate “latte art” atop their espresso drinks. And while the drinks are top-notch, Pearl Cup’s pastries and paninis are pretty good, too. The only downside is the time and money it takes to make such a great product. Pearl Cup’s drinks are on the pricy side, and it can take a while to get your drink, especially when their busy. If you’re into quality coffee, though, it’s well worth it.

Atmosphere

Pearl Cup has a sleek minimalist feel to it, but it avoids the “sterile” feel of some cafes. It feels a lot like a European coffee shop, from the demitasse cups to the small metal tables. The store also has not one, but two patios. There is a small, covered patio on the south side of the building, with three non-smoking tables bolted to the ground. Then there is a larger, more traditional patio in front, with moveable tables in front. Both of these patios are pleasant, but neither provides much relief from the mid-day sun. Still, if you’re looking to sit outside and people-watch, it’s a pleasant place to hang out.

Amenities

This is a very laptop-friendly coffee shop. There are several rows of small tables that are good for both individuals and groups. There are also plenty of power strips and extension cords. And while Pearl Cup is a good place for gadgets, It’s not the most car-friendly place in the city. Pearl Cup does not have its own parking lot, though there’s usually some free space on McMillan and other side streets. And while parking is a nightmare, there is a bus stop right outside the door, perfect for the small but growing number of Dallasites taking public transportation.

Pearl Cup is the gold standard for coffee in Dallas. It has the best coffee, two nice patios, and a laptop-friendly interior. This place represents local business at its best, and they deserve all the patronage they can get.

The Pearl Cup is located at 1900 N Henderson Ave Ste B  Dallas, TX 75206.

If you like The Pearl Cup, another coffee place to check out is Cultivar Coffee (http://cultivarcoffee.com/about/) in East Dallas. Not only is their coffee as good as or better than The Pearl Cup, they share space with the girls from acclaimed Good2Go taco (https://www.facebook.com/good2gotaco). Not as laptop friendly and pretty crowded on weekends but worth checking out on a nice weekday.
