If there is one thing that I’m not very good at, it’s doing my make up. I don’t play around with make up or try anything new, because I usually end up looking like a clown. I get eyeliner all over the place, I start looking like Amy Winehouse and it’s just not a good look for me. Back in the beginning of the year, a new business opened up called Blushington. This salon has the same concept as the Dry Bar but with makeup instead of hair. You look through their book of styles and a make up artist will do your makeup exactly like the picture. I stopped in because I wanted to try their air-brushing.
Like I said before, make up really isn’t my thing. I’m always on the go so I only wear blush, mascara and eye liner (mainly because they can all be easily applied in the car). So when I heard about the air brushing they did, I was intrigued. I wanted to know about it but was skeptical because I don’t wear base. I didn’t want to walk out of there with my face feeling heavy and looking cakey.
I love all the looks that Blushington has to offer, but I decided to go for the “Smoke and Mirror” look. My second choice would have been the “Lucky Stars” just so I could see what the cat eye look is SUPPOSE to look like on my eyes for the next time that I attempt to do it.
The first thing my makeup artist did after prepping my face was my dramatic eye makeup. She was a perfectionist and after tweaking the color and straightening my eyeliner a couple times, but eyes ended up looking amazing.
After my eyes were done, we moved on to the air brushing. I wasn’t too sure what to expect since I have never had it done before. My make up artist gently sprayed the base on my fact. There was a light perfume spray but nothing too overwhelming. After spraying a little area, she would stop and blot the makeup to make sure it was spread evenly across my face. It felt like I was spraying a water mister on my face, which was very refreshing in this nasty Texas heat.
We decided to stay away from bright lips since my eyes were so dramatic. As you can tell, the air brush base laid nicely on my skin without it looking like too much. She did a great job making my skin tone to look very smooth and natural.
Blushington is offering Back to School makeup classes. These are private lessons so you will be one on one with a beauty expert who will teach you everything you need to know about make up and making it work for you. Best part about it, classes only cost $50!
I had such a great time at Blushington, my make up session took about an hour. Most makeup sessions take approximately 30 minutes. If you opt for the airbrushing or any extra services, allow for more time. I had my appointment at 1:30pm, after working the rest of the day and a date for Restaurant Week at the French Room, I came home around 9:30pm and was stoked to see that my makeup hadn’t rubbed off, smeared or disappeared off of my face.
Blushington is located in Highland Park conveniently located next to the Dry Bar. So, if I were you I would make a day of it. Schedule an appointment at the Dry Bar and Blushington and spend a night out on the town!

If you were going to get your makeup done at Blushington, which make up look would you choose?
This is such a great concept!! I definitely want to try this out now that I've read about your experience! P.S. You are so pretty, Betsy!!
You would love it. It's such a fun experience. (and THANK YOU!)
I have no idea how to accent my eyes. I am good with just some mascara and eyeliner. I get all flustered with all the possible colors to choose from. This sounds like a great idea.
That's exactly how I am. I stick to what I know which is mascara and eyeliner! I don't even try to experiment with eye shadows anymore!
I love that the look lasted all day long. That's amazing in the Texas heat.
Oh, I'd have to go to see what they could do about dark eye circles…and wrinkles…and freckles…well I guess I need to try out that airbrush thing. That and find out what adults do with their makeup since I've done my the same way since i was 12.
I love an easy makeup, but I love the professional look of what you see in magazines. I would love to have that dewey look that stars seem to have on the red carpet.
Such a great idea for a mom to do with her daughter….a little advice can't hurt~
How fun! I think I'd choose the smoke and mirrors look. I have been wanting to check out Dry Bar too!
Autumn…Blushington has an AMAZING color corrector they use for dark eye circles. Blessed with terrible allergies my whole life, they are about the only place I've found that truly COVERS up the dark circles haha. I've been a few times and every time left looking flawless.
