It’s not every day that you find a bar that truly commits itself to its cocktails and whose staff actually inspires the beverage creation (and get it right). A bar that crafts each drink like it’s recipient is an anointed one. Well my thirsty friends, The Peoples Last Stand at Mockingbird Station does it just right. On Thursday evening, the prohibition era bar invited a group of local foodies and friends in for a tasting of some delicious cocktails and bites off their new menu.
After entering the newly redesigned space, it felt like a comfy and warm SoHo loft. Big brown leather couches, bookshelves lined with intriguing reads, industrial cement floors and a curvy bar
that just felt right. I quickly found myself with drink in hand as a Forza DiCanio, off their aperitif menu, lit up my taste buds with a welcoming zing. As we were seated, bowls full of Maple Glazed Peanuts with Bacon lined the table and let me just say…I would fight off a hungry mob and finish a bowl by myself. The flights of cocktails made their way in front of us ranging from a summery Sangre por Sangre to the Le Colonial, which feeds off a current mixology obsession with mixing spicy with sweet, like ginger syrup and jalapeño.
Noms included a slew of sammies with cool names like the Gandhi (Delicious veggie option with guac, mushrooms, bell peppers and a sweet melty goat cheese), the Kennedy (turkey, sun dried maters and a mustard kick) and my favorite, the Francesco (basically its an entire deli on baguette, and just how I like it). The real scene stealer though? Ropa Vieja Tacos that oozzzzzzed with juicy chicken, jicama slaw and guac. Drool. Other options include a stuffed avocado and yummy hummus plate.
Some of us got a kick out of just watching the drinks being shaken with such vigor and expertise behind the bar, it was tough to look away knowing what delicious drinks awaited us. The space lends itself to a comfortable and classy evening with friends or dates. Make sure to try a Black with Envy (muddled blackberries, bourbon and honey syrup) which mellows things out after a strong yet tasty Batlle of Aspen. Dang, even the names are fun.
To those who doubt the possibility of venturing to Mockingbird Station or that your safe in your local bubble of bars…I challenge you to get over to Peoples Last Stand where you can get yourself a SERIOUSLY AMAZING drink.
Now back to dreaming of more Ropa Vieja tacos.

Great Post! The People’s Last Stand has the best food to munch on. The Brisket tacos were definitely my favorite and the chicken stuffed avocado was a close second.
