I was excited to visit Townhouse Kitchen and Bar this week for one reason in particular. The space previously occupied by Sushi Samba is in a thorn bush of a location at Galleria Dallas, and my curiostity to see how Townhouse would break through that was peaked.
At first glance, Townhouse seems like a comfy locale with warm, illuminating light fixtures that welcome you into the huge space. The bar itself could easily seat 50 hungry and thirsty patrons, though I’m unsure it will ever reach its potential. On a Thursday evening this place was rather empty but given its newness and somewhat hard to find quality, I can understand why. I’ll have you know this before I go any further, this place is a hidden gem…I’ve never been so impressed with service, attention to detail and taste from a mall restaurant. Not even some of the top notch steakhouses in Dallas could achieve that feat.
The hostess guided us through other diners to our cozy table which face a palm tree-lined outdoor patio and walkway. She also set down a light up wine list…HOW COOL. Fabulous. Our server for the evening, Juan, swept over to grab our drink order and recommended 2 of their strongest drinks. He knows us too well. While we sipped on our Karma (citrus vodka, elderflower and champagne) and Fire & Ice (grapefruit vodka, citrus simple syrup and jalapeño) an array of small plates began arriving. Dishes included BBQ Duck Quesadillas with a killer blueberry salsa, Ahi Tuna stack with crisp citrus notes and flaky tostada, Kung Pao Shrimp Tacos with toasted peanuts and lime & Four Cheese Mac and Cheese (sans bacon, but would DEFINITELY recommend the add-on).
With those four amazing apps under our belt we decided to go in for one last cocktail. We made sure Juan set us out with a bang…oh and did he. Out came the Sage Coach: a refreshing glass of cucumber infused vodka, sage syrup, gin and a champagne topper. My dining companion went with the party in a glass..the Mojito Royal (muddled strawberries, basil, lime, simple syrup. rum and soda.
For dessert we buttoned down our hatches as there was only one item left to conquer. MAPLE BACON DONUTS WITH ICE CREAM AND BACON DRIZZLE. Who ever the crazy effing genius is who came up with this monstrosity of gluttonous goodness deserves a kick in the butt and a handshake at the same time. It was tasty and my dining partner even broke down from the diet realm to indulge in this one of a kind treat. Bless you, Maple Bacon Donut creator…Bless you.
Townhouse Kitchen and Bar is located at the Galleria Dallas near the Westin Hotel. Go there, NOW.
