It’s officially Spring! (Insert Happy Dance)
Spring is one of my favorite seasons because of the beautiful weather that we have. In Texas, our Winters are usually icy and it’s extremely hot. For about a month during Spring, we have weather that absolutely amazing. It’s in the mid 60s and we’re able to keep all of our windows and doors open so we can soak in the sun.
What does Spring also mean? It means it’s time to clean the house from the floor to the ceiling. Some people might dread this but I actually enjoy it. Spring cleaning means it’s time to get rid of all the clutter and things that we don’t use or need.
My cleaning routine has changed for the better and I want to share a few of my secrets!
Start and Finish One Room Before Moving to the Next
I often find myself running all over our house. I start washing the dishes then I take the dirty kitchen towels to the laundry. I’ll get distracted in the laundry room and start washing clothes. After that I’ll walk by the guest bathroom and notice the trash is over flowing. It’s a horrible cycle and it takes so much more time to clean when you are not focused on one area. I usually start in the kitchen because that’s the room that needs the most work. Once I finish with the kitchen, I’ll move on to the next room that needs the most work which is usually our bedroom.
Buy Products That Help You Clean
About 6 months ago, my husband and I remodeled our house which included new wood floors and carpet throughout our whole house. Our floors are gorgeous but cleaning them is a task… a very demanding task. We have a nice sized house, almost at 3000 sq feet so trying to make sure ALL the floors are clean takes so much time. It’s a bit ridiculous. That was all until I discovered the iRobot at Best Buy.
Before I even start cleaning, I turn on the iRobot. (BTW – I named her Ruby, the iRobot. No shame in my game.) There are a few things that I love about my iRobot® Roomba® 870. You can easily set up boundaries so she can clean one room at a time. So when you are working in the kitchen, you can move your virtual wall barriers and she will stay within a certain area. Then once you’re done, you move the boundaries and it will clean the next room with you.
The iRobot cleans all types of floors. My house has travertine, wood floors and carpet and it has no problems cleaning them all. This is the most powerful vacuuming system yet delivers 5x the suction and removes up to 50% more dirt, dust, hair and debris. One of my favorite features is being able to schedule when it cleans. So you can set it up to automatically vacuum your house every night at 1 am while you’re sleeping. Then you can wake up to a clean, vacuumed house! It’s small enough to fit underneath all of my furniture and all of my cabinets in my kitchen – which is usually the places that need to be cleaned most!
Tackle One Project at a Time
What is your motivation for cleaning? Are you just trying to get the house back in good shape or do you have guests coming over for the holidays? Know what your mission is so you know how to tackle the task. If you are getting your house back in order. Make a list and give your self a task of things to do every day. For example: On Monday, clean out junk drawer in the kitchen and wipe down refrigerator. On Tuesday, go through the closet in the guest bedroom.
If you’re getting ready for a guest, start in the room the guest is staying in. If something comes up and you aren’t able to clean everything as thoroughly as you want, at least the guest room will be ready. Trust me, guests aren’t looking at your floors and judging you for your pantry being messy.
