Going to events often starts to become very repetitive and loses it’s charm. I’ve started to be a bit more choosy with events because if I went to all of them, I would be run down and not truly enjoy it. There are a few events in Dallas that I don’t miss out on and Taste of the NFL is one of them. I’ve been going to this charity event for about 5 years now and enjoy it more and more every year.
Taste of the NFL is an event held at the Glass Cactus at the Gaylord Texan where hundreds of people come together for one great reason – to help feed those that are hungry in the DFW area. All of the proceeds go to the North Texas Food Bank. The organization uses the funds received from Taste of the NFL to support kids programs like Food 4 Kids, School Pantry and Kids Cafe. Each of these programs provide nutritious food and snacks to children in need across North Texas.
There are multiple ways to give back at the event. Taste of the NFL is a ticketed event and upon arriving there are tables upon tables of raffle items that you can bid on throughout the night. There is something for everybody whether it be a Taylor Swift signed guitar, a one on one spin class or a four pack to play a round of golf. Bidding takes place during the night and the winner of each item is able to take home their prize with them, which I love. There is also a live auction that takes place towards the end of the night. This year they live auctioned off a vacation to Colorado that included two round trip place tickets and one week stay at Breckenridge and a few other big ticketed items.
There isn’t just auctions at Taste of the NFL, there is also lots of great food! Restaurants such as Kent Rathbun Concepts, Bistro 31, Lockharts, The Second Floor and many more offered an unlimited supply of tasty dishes for all to try. Your Taste of the NFL ticket gets you unlimited bites from all the restaurants. Did I mention there is an open bar?
Come hungry because there is an abundance of food and you will want to taste it all. Some of the items that stuck out was the Turtle Gumbo from Pappas Bros and the Chicken Fried Texas Quail on Jalapeno Grits.
One of the coolest parts of the night is seeing so many Current and Former Dallas Cowboys players walking around mingling with guests. They are all so nice and I love that they take time out of their busy schedule to pay it forward to be at these events. This year I decided to step outside of my comfort zone and get a picture with Jason Garrett.
Jason Garrett was extremely personable and I loved being able to talk to him. I felt a bit bad afterwards though because after I took the picture I read that we weren’t suppose to ask for photos or autographs. Oops. Thankfully he didn’t tell me no when I asked for a picture. That would have been awkward. (Also, sorry I told everyone you were my new boyfriend, Jason!)
Add this list to your events to attend next year, you won’t be disappointed!
