The Fairmont Dallas is pleased to announce the appointment of Riley Holloway as Artist in Residence. From April through June 2013, Mr. Holloway will work in a private Artist in Residence studio while living in a 25th floor penthouse suite. Mr. Holloway will create multimedia pieces incorporating oil painting and pen as he compiles his first solo exhibition, which will be on view at The Gallery at The Fairmont at the conclusion of the residency.
Born in Los Angeles, Mr. Holloway relocated to Arlington, Texas at a young age. Growing up, he developed an early interest in art while coloring and drawing pictures with his mother, herself an artist. In 2007, Mr. Holloway attended the Art Institute of Dallas and studied motion graphics. He spent time in Italy studying portrait painting at the Florence Academy of Art, where he trained in oil painting in 2011. As a multimedia artist, Mr. Holloway finds creative inspiration through jazz music, poetry and the work of iconic artists including Jean-Michel Basquiat, Norman Rockwell and Alphonse Mucha.
In addition to working in the Artist in Residence studio, Mr. Holloway plans to periodically explore the hotel for artistic inspiration. He will spend time sketching in the lively Pyramid Bar and will paint on the rooftop terrace, which offers views of the surrounding Dallas skyline.
“I strongly believe in Dallas and I feel as though it is a great place to be as an artist,” said Mr. Holloway. “There are many creative and talented artists here and the city really seems to be supporting local talent.”
From April through June, Mr. Holloway will be working in the glass-front Artist in Residence studio located on the “O” level of the hotel. Members of the community are invited to visit during studio hours to view his pieces in progress. Studio hours are Monday through Friday, from 3:00 pm –7:00pm.
