I have a severe case of wanderlust. Anytime I can skip town, I do. It’s not that I don’t love my city, there is so much to see and do that I hate staying in one place. My husband and I don’t have kids yet so we have been traveling fools lately. We can’t always go on long vacations, but more often than not we can usually find a fun place to go for the weekend.
One place that we love to visit is Winstar World Casino. The crazy thing is that my husband and I aren’t even big gamblers but Winstar has so much to offer we still enjoy going. Whether you’ve been to Winstar or not, I’ve gathered a list of Tips for Visiting Winstar that everybody can use.
Plan to see a show. Winstar brings world class entertainment to their casino. We usually plan our trips to Winstar depending on which entertainment acts will be there. A few years ago when my husband and I first started dating, we took a roadtrip to Winstar to see Lil Wayne. (Be jealous) The last time we went to Winstar was for Jim Gaffigan. As you can tell our taste has gotten much better throughout the years. Both shows that we saw were completely sold out and packed. Winstar brings all sorts of entertainment from Lionel Richie to Penn and Teller. I would highly recommend seeing a show, if possible. Check out their lineup here.
Book a room and stay the night. I love that Winstar is so close to Dallas. It only took about an hour and a half from my house to get to the front door of Winstar. Not only was it a short drive, it was a straight shot which made it so easy to get there. Room are very reasonably priced and it’s nice to be able to chill and relax instead of worrying about making the drive home the same day. My room was the perfect size. There was plenty of room to move around in without wasted space. We didn’t spend much time in the room, so it was exactly what we needed. Not to mention, the bed was extremely comfortable!
Set a budget. Even though my husband and I aren’t big gamblers, we still like playing the machines for a short period of time. Before we go to any casino, we set a certain amount that we are willing to spend. Usually we’ll head to the ATM before we go to the casino and pull out an allotted amount of money. We know that once that cash is gone, we have hit our limit. It’s a simple way to keep track of what we’re spending.
Make reservations. You know I love a good meal. Winstar has over 20 places to dine – everything from fast food to fine dining. If you plan on eating at one of their nice restaurants, reservations are highly recommended especially if there is a popular entertainer at the casino. We dined at The Grill before the Jim Gaffigan show. I called about a week in advance and made reservations. I noticed many people were getting turned away the same night because they didn’t have reservations so it’s definitely worth it. Our meal at The Grill was very good. Our waiter was very attentive and food was fresh. Not only was our dinner delicious, it was reasonably priced. My husband and I had cokes, an appetizer, and two entrees for under $75. You can’t beat that at a nice restaurant! If you’d rather grab something fast, there are tons of other restaurants to choose from like El Fenix or Dairy Queen!
Bring your swimsuit. I completely forgot to bring mine and I was so bummed. The pool at Winstar is amazing and definitely something you don’t want to miss out on! The Resort Pool features two spas, six private cabanas and a refreshingly convenient Pool Bar.
Play a round of Golf. WinStar World Casino and Resort offers a gorgeous golf course in the Red River Valley ideal for golfers of all skill levels, as well as a venue for tournaments or group outings. You can also improve your game with a lesson at the WinStar Golf Academy taught by professional instructors at a state-of-the-art facility.
Enjoy yourself. Winstar is such a treat for me and my husband. We always have a good time and make lots of memories when we are there. The drinks are very reasonably priced so buy a few and enjoy yourself! It’s the perfect place for a weekend getaway whether you want to gamble, play a couple rounds of golf or see your favorite comedian.
