Nerd culture is bigger than ever, with the international success of franchises like The Avengers and Dr. Who, as well as thousands of lesser-know fictional universes. For Dallas-area fans of comics, sci-fi, horror, gaming and anime, the biggest event of the year is Fan Expo Dallas, presented by Dallas Comic Con. This weekend, Fan Expo returns to the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center for three days of celebrities, cosplay and merchandise.
Headlining this year’s Fan Expo Dallas is Stan Lee, the man who created such Marvel characters as Spider-Man, Iron Man and the Incredible Hulk, as well as superhero teams like the X-Men and the Fantastic Four. Also headlining are Gillian Anderson of X-Files, Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk of Firefly, Jeri Ryan of Star Trek: Voyager, Matt Smith and Karen Gillan of Dr. Who, and many, many others.
In addition to the big name guests, Fan Expo Dallas has writers, artists, gamers and cosplayers. There will also be over 600 vendors and 75,000 fellow fans to meet and geek out with. Attendees are encouraged, but not required, to dress up. And no matter how you dress, there will be plenty of photo ops with celebrities and cosplayers alike. Like any good comic con, Fan Expo Dallas is a place to see and be seen. Whether you’re a hardcore comic book geek or just a casual fan, there’s a lot to do at the Convention Center this weekend.
Fan Expo Dallas runs from May 29 to May 31, 2015. Tickets are $119 for a Premium Pass and $89 for a Weekend Pass. Day passes are also available for each of the three days: $25 for 4pm to 9pm Friday, $50 for 10am to 7pm Saturday, and $40 for 10am to 5pm Sunday. Parking is available in advance via Parking Panda, and DART’s Red and Blue lines have a station directly beneath the convention center. For more information, visit fanexpodallas.com.
