How to Host a Stress Free Christmas Dinner

Blog· Food and Drinks

Thanks to Honey Baked Ham for sponsoring today’s conversation!

This year has been the year of simplicity.

It’s amazing how such a simple things can change your life. I learned two major lessons this year; it’s okay to say no to others and to delegate tasks. Once I learned to say no, I almost instantly became more happy. It freed up my time and I found that I was actually doing things because I wanted to do them, not because I felt obligated. Learning to delegate tasks was a much harder lesson for me to learn. The hardest part for me was letting go of the control and just believing that everything would be okay. I started to let others do tasks for me that I either a) wasn’t very good at or b) didn’t have the time to do. Two main tasks included cleaning my house and cooking.

You can read all about how I let go of cleaning my house and started to let someone else do it here. As for cooking, it was much harder. The problem is that I LOVE to cook. I thoroughly enjoy being in the kitchen, making meals, trying new techniques but my work schedule doesn’t always permit. The holiday season is ‘busy season’ for me so this time of the year that I enjoy all of the free time that I can get.

How to Host a Stress Free Christmas Dinner

This year, we celebrated Christmas a little early and I had to share our beautiful meal provided by Honey Baked Ham. It was the easiest meal that I ever made, well I didn’t make it but I might have pretended like I did. It was the best thing ever. I needed to prepare the dinner in a crunch but I just didn’t have the time. I headed to a Honey Baked Ham store in Dallas, picked out a ham, 2 sides and a dessert which was right at $75. First off, I can’t leave the grocery store without spending $150 so I felt like I was robbing the place. I was able to put the ham in the refrigerator til I was ready to “prepare” the meal and just like that Christmas dinner was prepared.

Instead of slaving away in the kitchen, I got to take the time to really decorate our home for Christmas. Before I started getting the dining room ready, I put my sides into bake. I bought broccoli rice casserole and macaroni cheese to go with our ham. Since I let it thaw, it only took about 20 minutes in the oven til it was ready.

(They actually preferred  me buying a Honey Baked Ham, which I don’t know if I should take offense to or not.)
