Inside the GM Assembly Plant in Arlington

Blog· Entertainment

Since January 6, 1954, General Motors have been building quality made vehicles in Arlington, TX. I was so excited when I was given the chance to take a tour around the factory and learn all about what GM is made of and where they are going.

We started the tour with a quick chat with some of the women in the manufacturing workplace. GM has many women in the workplace at all positions from people who work the assembly line to women who are working on the corporate side. They talked about what it’s like to be a business woman in what is usually looked at as a ‘man’s job’.   One word of advice they had for young girls is to follow their strength. They were big advocates of the STEM program and urged young ones to explore as much as they can. Inside the GM Assembly Plant - Arlington TX

I was lucky enough to take the tour with a few other Dallas bloggers, so naturally, we started the tour with a selfie. Say hello to Alice from Thrill of the Chases, Dawn from The Frugal Mom and Heather from Dallas Single Mom.

GM Arlington Plant - Dallas BloggersWe toured the plant on a trolley and I’m very thankful because the GM plant is HUGE. We only viewed a portion of the plant and I was mesmerized by how efficient every part or the assembly line was.  There are currently three production shifts that take place during the day which means the plant is running 24/7 with no breaks.

I was shocked to learn that approximately 1,140 vehicles are produced daily. Want to hear something even more amazing? On December 14, 2014, the Arlington GM plant produced their 10 millionth vehicle! Any guesses what it was? A Chevrolet Suburban!

The GM Plant is currently putting a program into place to allow the general public in for tours. They’re hoping to have everything set in place by late May. If you’re interested in learning more about plant tours, sign up for notifications here.  I highly recommend taking a tour once they open up, it’s truly a great experience.
