Photography Tips for Road Trips

Blog· Entertainment

There is nothing quite like jumping in a car and heading off for an adventure. I love taking road trips because you get to see and do so many more things rather than flying. Nothing can beat the sites you see and the memories you make while you’re on the road.

One thing that I make sure I do when traveling is take as many pictures as possible. It’s a great way to relive your memories in the future. I’m not an expert photographer, but have learned some tricks of the trade when it comes to photography that you can use on your next road trip.Road Trip Photography Tips

Learn how to use your camera. Check your local Best Buy or camera’s manufacturer and see if they have any classes available. I’ve had the Best Buy guys help me with my DSLR more times than not. They are always extremely helpful and have taught me a few things. Also check youtube for tips.

Make a photography scavenger list. You and your children can use this list. Write down a list of 100 things on a piece of paper of fun things to photograph. Give the list to everyone on your road trip and have them take at least 25 pictures of the things on the list. At the end of the road trip, compare pictures!

Road Trip Photography Tips

Buy a point and shoot camera. I highly recommend investing in a nice camera. For the longest time, I used only my phone camera. While phone camera is awesome, I had no idea how big of a difference a DSLR made on my pictures. My first DSLR was the Canon Rebel t5i and I have found it very easy to learn and grow with. You don’t have to buy an expensive camera but I would recommend finding one that fits your needs.

Make a stop at your local Best Buy before your trip. I usually start of things I need for my trip a couple weeks in advance. My list is usually made up of tech items ranging in everything from selfie sticks to phone chargers. We like to stop at Best Buy on our way out so we can grab all the items we need.

Buy a tripod. You don’t have to be a professional photographer to own a tripod. I own a tripod for my phone and for my DSLR. It’s perfect for any image that you’re trying to get. I love to use my tripod to film videos. It’s great way to capture your kids playing, the beautiful scenery or a video to send to a loved one.
