As much as I love being pampered, there is one thing I hate about going to get my hair done and salons – the amount of time it takes. I have been blessed with lots of hair (and it’s long) so anytime I head to the beauty salon, it’s literally 4 hours minimum til I’m out of there. Four hours is a long time for me to take out of my day so I usually avoid getting my hair done. A few years back, I stopped dying my hair and went all natural.
Well, I’m now tired of my hair being one color and wanted to do something fun with it but not extreme. I learned about the balayage and thought it was the perfect color job that I needed. Camille Albane recently opened in Addison and since they are the inventors of the balayage, I knew exactly where I was going to get it done.
Are you curious what a balayage is? The balayage is a french word meaning to paint. The hairstylist “paints” color onto your hair to make the color look the most natural with your haircut and style. The best part? It’s low maintenance and I don’t have to go to the salon every 6 weeks. I was told that the balayage can actually last 4-5 months!
I made my appointment at the newly opened Camille Albane for a Friday night. Before I even went, I knew I would love the salon because they didn’t make me wait weeks to get in and they were able to see me on a Friday night. I love any salon that is open past the normal 9-5pm schedule.
I was able to get an appointment with David West, the salon manager. He was not only extremely personable, he knew how to work those scissors! Before he could work on my color, he had to cut and style my hair first. I was worried, because this is usually the part that takes the longest at any salon. When washing my hair, Camille Albane uses essential oils on your scalp which I loved! Before heading back to the chair, they wrap your hair up and add an origami flower. It was perfect for my Salon Selfie!
David cut my hair and blow dried it in approximately 30-45 minutes. That is seriously fast. Usually when I go to the Dry Bars, which I go a lot, it takes them a minimum of an hour to just wash and dry my hair! While I was getting my hair cut, a lady came in and even complimented David on how well he worked his scissors. She had been watching him outside the whole time and was quite impressed. She even made an appointment.
Once my hair was styled, David started the balayage process. Only seasoned hairdressers can do this, so don’t trust anyone! He analyzed the cut of my hair and applied color where it fit naturally. That process took about 20 minutes, it was quick since we weren’t dying all of my hair!
The next step was to let it set for about 20 minutes. Once the color was ready, David washed and dried my hair again. I felt bad at this point, I can only imagine the workout hairdressers get from blow drying people’s hair like mine.
Here’s the truth. I loved my haircut, I don’t think I mentioned it had been SIX months since my last cut so it was way passed due. I didn’t dislike my hair color but I couldn’t tell a big difference in the color from when I first came in. No matter what, I knew it looked 100 times better than when I walked in.
After a few days, I started to see the lighter colors in my hair peak through and now I love it. It’s very subtle and just what I wanted. It gives my hair a little bit more color without it looking fake. It’s the perfect natural look and I love the way it turned out.
If your hair is needing new life, head to Camille Albane and get the balayage. It’s the perfect hairstyle for those who are wanting a change but want to keep the natural look.

I’m glad that you found a stylist that you’re happy with. That can be hard sometimes. I know that my wife has complained about finding the right one a lot. I haven’t heard of ‘balayage’ before though. I wonder if she has. I’ll ask her! Thanks for sharing your experience.
