Chef Richard Blakenship currently helms the kitchen at CBD Provisions so a date night was in order to see what the Chef has been cooking up. I honestly hadn’t been to CBD Provisions in a long while so I was excited to give it a try again. I always love dining downtown any chance that we get and this was the perfect opportunity.
At first glance, the menu didn’t include a bunch of items that I would regularly order. But don’t get me wrong, that isn’t a bad thing. I enjoy dining at places that force me outside of my comfort zone and that’s exactly what CBD provisions did.
The new “Provisions” section of their menu offers a wide range of items that are meant to be shared with a group. Surprisingly, one of my very favorite items from the provisions was the smoked carrot dip which was topped with homemade sour cream and served with seed crackers.
Some other options included Spicy Oil-Cured Peas with chile de arbol and mint, and Preserved Shitake Mushrooms with fried rosemary. We couldn’t just choose one entree so we ordered an eclectic variety so we could try it all. My husband’s favorite was the fried Rooster. This is definitely a must try.
Blankenship slow cooks a rooster that is locally bought, rolls it in fresh ingredients including szechaun peppers, cumin and orange peel then fries it. It’s arguably better than any fried chicken you’ve had before. 
We ordered so much food that we had to take most of it home but the one thing that we ate every single bit of was the house made mac and cheese. It’s the perfect side to compliment any entree.
Just when we thought we couldn’t eat anymore, we glanced at the dessert menu and knew we had to give it a try. Their grown up version of banana pudding was delicious. How could you say no to a dessert with banana liqueur? 
Our waitress impressed us with her knowledge of the new menu. She knew everything on the menu and all ingredients in each dish without batting an eye. The most impressive part was that the menu was just released to the public the day we went. Our waitress and Chef Richard Blankenship made our night one to remember. If you’re looking for a great date night, CBD Provisions should be on the top of your list.
