Midweek date nights are must for me and my husband. Since we both are workaholics, it’s always nice to break up the week with an outing. Our go-to date night is Dallas Summer Musicals. We’ve made it a habit to go and see each musical that comes in town. It’s sometimes hard to keep up since so many are offered at Music Hall at Fair Park. Thankfully, each musical lasts a couple weeks so we can always find a time that works with both of our schedules. The most recent musical that we attended at Dallas Summer Musicals was Ragtime. I’ll be the first to admit, I wasn’t familiar with Ragtime before going but I instantly fell in love with the story line.
I don’t want to give it all away but the story line involves an upper-class wife, a determined Jewish immigrant and a daring young Harlem musician unfold – set in turn-of-the-century New York – all three united by their desire and belief in a brighter tomorrow. Ragtime does an amazing job in portraying each of their lives and bringing them all together regardless of all three families having different lifestyles and outlooks.
Before you go, know that Ragtime’s run time is approximately 2 hours 40 minutes with one 15 minute intermission. The show is suitable for children 10 years and older. There were a few cuss words throughout the beginning of the play. Depending on which day of the week that you attend a Dallas Summer Musical, I would suggest riding the DART straight to Music Hall at Fair Park. The DART Green Line is a great alternative to driving. The Fair Park Station is just outside the gate to the Music Hall entrance – a very short walk. I’ve never had issues parking, but definitely try to get there at minimum 15 minutes early. There is always enough parking but sometimes you will have to park a bit further out. Valet is always an option if the walk is too far.
If you are unable to make it to Ragtime before the last show on June 5th, no worries because another musical is right around the corner. The next on the list is Bullets Over Broadway from June 14 – June 26th. If you’re looking for a great night in Dallas or fun night out with your family, I highly recommend a visit to Dallas Summer Musicals!
