Summer is in full swing at the Fair Park Music Hall and you don’t need to wear your dancing shoes to enjoy this performance. The classic movie starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey is being reenacted on stage at Music Hall at Fair Park. The plot is something we all remember, the well-to-do teen visits a summer camp with her family only to fall in love with the resorts not-so-well-to-do dance instructor. This performance will bring back the memories of all the wonderful, awkward and exciting parts of this story.
Music, both from the movie and from the film period, fills the auditorium as sexy dance moves fill the stage. The first half of the show sets the stage (literally) and just when you think you can predict the rest of the program it kicks into gear with jam-packed drama, beautiful solos and even more sensual dance moves.
Some of the songs may make you want to dance, but hopefully will at least have your toes tapping and head bopping. It’s a fun show that will bring back memories of the movie that you may have forgotten and are displayed on stage in a way that make you realize how significant some of the scenes. The ending is sure to please the famous “nobody puts baby in a corner” line and the dance that ends the production is just fabulous!
I was reminded that the story was not just about dancing and a love story. It’s about relationships, family and life’s misfortunes set in the backdrop of 1960’s civil rights unrest. That it’s not just a romantic love story but a love story about family, friends, and how we can all make a big difference in someone’s life by doing something small.
Thank you to the actors and beautiful dancers for this version of a classic that I will forever remember.
Dirty Dancing will be at Fair Park Music Hall from June 23rd- July 5th. Visit www.dallassummermusicals.org for more information.
