My husband and I go out to eat every Friday night. I cook every week night so once the weekend hits, I’m ready to get out of the house and for someone else to cook (and clean) for me. Almost every time he chooses a dinner spot, it is a steak restaurant. When I heard that Fogo de Chao was opening a new location in Uptown, I knew we had to go asap.
If you’re unfamiliar with Fogo de Chao, it’s an authentic Brazilian Steakhouse that specializes in fire-roasting high-quality meats utilizing the centuries-old Southern Brazilian cooking technique of churrasco that provides continuous service. My first recommendation is to come hungry. This is a place to indulge and a meat lovers paradise. To start your meal, you enjoy the gourmet Market Table and Feijoada Bar, which includes seasonal salads, soups, fresh vegetables, Feijoada (Brazilian black bean stew), and authentic Brazilian side dishes. Anything you want, they’ll have. I stacked my plate with a variety of salads, lots of hearts of palm and fresh made basil dressing.
Once we got back to our table, we started the meat service and got to try a large variety of meats from filet mignon, lamb chops to ribeye. To say my husband was in heaven would be an understatement. When Fogo de Chao says continuous meat service, it is no joke.
One by one, Brazilian-trained gaucho chefs would stop by the table offering a variety of meats. You can decline any meat or even ask for it to be cooked a specific way such as more well done or rare and they will bring you the meat within minutes. Once you are satisfied with the amount of meat you have at the moment, all you have to do is turn over a coaster on your table to red which means stop. It’s a perfect way to enjoy your meat and once you’re ready for more gaucho chefs to stop by, just turn over the coaster to green.
The all you can eat service is the way to go and more than worth the price you pay. It’s a great way to try all sorts of meats in one sitting. I suggest trying them all! If you can’t make it for dinner, check out their brunch or happy hour specials. Fogo de Chão is located on the lower level of the One Uptown apartment complex at 2619 McKinney Ave. in Uptown Dallas.
