Gaybingo in Dallas – Pride, Fun, and Partying for a Cause
The LGBT community has seen success in the past few months, especially with the number of states in the US allowing same-sex marriages to take place. Recently, a lawmaker has filed a bill to legalize same-sex marriage in Texas, and we still have to await updates to see if it will push through. Outside the United States, though, is a different story—hate crimes against the marginalized LGBTs are happening all over the world, including Russia, India and Israel. It would seem that despite modern times, LGBTs are not yet fully accepted by everyone.
Here in Dallas there’s an organization which advocates for the rights of LGBTs: the Resource Center Dallas. It operates one of the biggest LGBT Community Centers in the US, and it caters to 50,000 people every year through its service-oriented programs. To support its nominated causes it holds charity events, the most popular of which is the monthly Gaybingo, which happens every third Saturday from January until November. This fun event has been around since 2001, combining dance and comedy with the popular game of bingo. It has been receiving great support from Dallas citizens, and its themes are widely discussed in the online forums on Facebook as well as at the Foxybingo interactive community. Past themes include Mardi Gras, Moulin Rouge, Inner Diva, Studio 70, Superheroes vs. Villains, and Wigstock. This month, the theme will be Pajama Party, so get those PJs out and be prepared to have fun.
The Gaybingo Pajama Party is set to happen on August 17th at Station 4 of the Cedar Springs Entertainment District. This year, expect higher cash payouts and a new exciting format for the featured bingo games. There will also be regular celebrity guest appearances. This month the special guest is none other than Latrice Royale, one of the controversial queens in the fourth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race.
