New Year’s Eve is fast approaching, and if you’re looking forward to spending some time out (without breaking the bank) you should check out these great tips on how to not blow all of your money on one night. Your wallet will thank you and you’ll make amazing memories to carry you through the upcoming year.
Check out social media and take advantage of early bird deals
Right now many places and sites have deals that can be used for a nice evening out. If you know where you’re going or New Year’s Eve, follow that company on all social networks. Everything from free door cover to discounted drinks, free food and even discounts on the outfit you buy to wear, can be found on their timeline. Start by looking for deals at local places, which will be amping up sales and deals to attract people on NYE, and then check the websites of some of your favorite places. You can plan a nice night out around the great deals you find and save some major cash.
Don’t go overboard on the meal
You’re out and having a great dinner at your favorite place in town, but that doesn’t mean you should spend your whole budget on food! Eat before you go out and order an appetizer for your meal, or skip the appetizer altogether, and just order an entree. Don’t buy alcohol at the restaurant, because restaurant prices on drinks can be triple where they would be anywhere else. While the meal should be great, it isn’t the best part of the night, so you shouldn’t pay too much when you can get good food for less than $30 a person at many places.
Save on the drinks
My rule of thumb before heading out is to have a few drinks at home or a friend’s place before heading out for the night. This not only helps by lowering your bar tab but it’s a fun way to get the night started. When you do go to a bar or two, don’t spend a ridiculous amount on the alcohol. If you’re bar hopping you’ll want to have a designated driver or go to bars within walking distance of one another. Remember that lines and cover charges will be crazy on New Year’s Eve so expect some time in lines. In addition, when you do buy drinks wait for the happy hour portion most bars hold on NYE. For 15 minutes to an hour, bars will have shot, drink, and beer specials in which you can get drinks for much cheaper than their normal prices.
Take a taxi or public transportation
Don’t drink and drive! Take a taxi or public transportation and save your own life. This will not only be the most convenient way (parking sucks everywhere on New Year’s Eve), but it will also save you $10,000 and a DWI.
Celebrate at home
You don’t have to go out to have a good time. Have a few of your favorite people over to your place to bring in the New Year. To save on money, have each one of your guests bring over their favorite appetizer or main dish and their own booze. The best part about it? Once everyone is done celebrating, you are already at home and you didn’t have to fight the crowds or spend all of your money.
