Last year, my husband and I bought a new refrigerator from . Our old refrigerator had seen it’s days and it was time for an upgrade. We were more than excited to get a new stainless steel Samsung side by side refrigerator with a freezer drawer on the bottom. Our previous refrigerator was a black side by side and wasn’t working for our needs. As time progressed, we changed our eating habits greatly. We’ve cut out a lot of processed foods and started eating more foods straight from the Farmers Market.
Curious why this matters when it comes to a refrigerator? After we cleaned up our eating habits, we realized the freezer section was almost a complete waste of space. Not even a year ago, our freezer would be full of pizzas, burritos, breakfast sandwiches, and ice cream. These days, the only thing that is in there is if we buy meat in bulk (and sometimes a bottle of liquor or two).
We started noticing the wasted space and instantly begin looking at new refrigerators. At the same time Samsung had just released it’s and both my husband and I fell in love with it instantly. The Samsung Hub had so many amazing features that we didn’t even know that we were missing out on. This refrigerator has not only made our life more easy but has helped us keep our healthy eating habits.
Refrigerator Functions You Didn’t Know You Needed
Black Stainless Steel. We have always had stainless steel appliances but as soon as Samsung released their black stainless steel, I knew I had to have it. Not only is it sleek but it is fingerprint resistant. My stainless steel refrigerator would need to be wiped down daily because of the smudges and fingerprints that we often left behind but the black stainless steel.
Camera Inside Your Refrigerator. When I first told someone that my refrigerator had cameras inside of it, I got a look like I was a crazy person. Once I explained that having a camera inside is perfect to know what is in the fridge at all times, especially when I’m at the grocery store and can’t remember if we have eggs, I then got a look like I was a pure genius. I’m able to use the Samsung Hub app and glance in my refrigerator at any time. It’s perfect when I’m meal planning, grocery shopping or when I’m laying in bed thinking about a midnight snack.
Food Management. The cameras inside your refrigerator are not only awesome to glace inside when you’re out and about but you can also put tags on each of your food products so you know how old each item it. For instance, if you bought fresh lettuce one week, cucumbers the next week and some eggs that expire in 2 weeks – you are able to drag little icons with the number of days to show how old the item is. It’s pure genius. Also when you’re out at the store and you see that you have lettuce, the little indicators let you know how fresh the lettuce is. The main food items that we keep track of are our eggs and milk.
Flex Doors. At first all the rage was side by side doors, then came the refrigerator that had side by side doors but also had a pull out bottom drawer for a freezer, now Samsung has come out with Flex Doors. There is four doors on the refrigerator. The top two open up to the refrigerator but the bottom two can be either a refrigerator or a freezer. You can switch them between the two with the touch of a finger. We currently only use one bottom side as a freezer and the other side as a drink section. It works perfectly for our needs.
TV mirroring. At first, I thought this was a function that we would never use. We have a beautiful 65″ Samsung TV that I can see from the kitchen so why would I need it on my TV. Well let me tell you folks, I ended up mirroring the TV from my bedroom so I can watch anything I want while my husband still watches his favorite shows in the living room. It’s a win-win!
Family Calendar. One thing about my last refrigerator that I wasn’t a huge fan of was my white board magnet calendar that I had posted on it. There was always scribble from our plans changing and it never looked clean. I was stoked when I found out the Samsung Family Hub had a built in calendar that syncs with your google calendar. I put all events on the calendar that my husband and I have. Not only does it allow my husband to know of upcoming plans or events, but it gives little countdowns til our next events so we never forget about them. You’re able to add or edit any new events from your app or the refrigerator which I love because I can make changes on the go.
Live Streaming Music. I tend to always have music playing wherever I am. No matter if I’m really listening to it and enjoying it, it’s a must. Sometimes I don’t think I can function without some background noise. The Samsung Hub has Pandora and local radio stations built in so I can listen to any type of music anytime.
White Board. I can send notes to my refrigerator from anywhere with my Samsung App. The Whiteboard feature has fun built in features such as emojis, paintbrushes and more. I like to leave notes for my husband throughout the week or we’ll post fun things such as countdowns til our next trip. The white board is also great when you want to leave someone a note such as “don’t eat my pizza.”
Display a Photo Album. Send your favorite photos straight to the screen of your Samsung Hub and display as a screensaver. All of our furbabies and travel pictures are displayed on our hub. It’s easy to upload new pictures in seconds.
Order Food From Your Refrigerator. Picture this – you’re cooking dinner, you gather all of your ingredients to cook and you realize you forgot the most important part of your recipe. By the time you get dressed, pile your kids in the car, go to the store and gran what you need and get back home, it’s going to be too late to even cook the meal. With Instacart which is already pre-loaded on our refrigerator, you can order food with the touch of a few buttons and have it delivered to your house within an hour. Talk about a lifesaver.
Get Recipes at the Touch Of Your Fingers. There are many nights that I will stand staring in my refrigerator and think, “what am I going to cook tonight?” I know I’m not the only one who does this. The All recipes App is built into the Samsung Hub. My favorite feature of the app is being able to type in all the items that you have and it will show recipes that use those items. For instance, many nights, I will have meat already thawed but I’m not sure what to cook with it. I would just type in “ground turkey” or “chicken” and All Recipes will curate recipes that use that item.
Built in Internet Browser. I can’t tell you how many times I pull out my phone while I’m cooking. Instead of running down the battery, I am not able to use my refrigerator to look up local news, check my site or search Pinterest.
Create a Shopping List. I have learned that if I don’t have a shopping list, not only will I buy one of everything in the store but I will come home with a bunch of unhealthy products and won’t have one thing to cook dinner. Being able to add items to the grocery list throughout the week is extremely helpful.
Personal Chef on Screen. The Samsung Club des Chef is quickly growing to be one of my favorite functions on the refrigerator. It’s like having a personal chef teach you how to cook items.
What else could you possibly want or need from a refrigerator? Samsung really out did themselves. It is our favorite tech item because it helping us become a healthier, more organized family. Anything that helps simplify my life gets a huge thumbs up in my book. If you’re in the market to purchase a new refrigerator, and take a look at the – you won’t be disappointed!
