Spending time in our backyard is one of our favorite things to do. Thankfully we have a large backyard with a pool so being able to play with the dogs, jump in the pool and have lots of extra space for running around is a major plus.
While we love our own little oasis that we’ve created, this Summer we wanted to do something more. This is the first year for us to have a little one to play in the backyard so we wanted to use it to it’s full advantage. While home projects never seem to end, our backyard is one that we’ve put at the top of our list this year.

Here’s some simple ways to upgrade your backyard
Take Note of What Activities You Do in Your Backyard
This is crucial because everybody’s needs are different. Make a list of what activities you and your family do in your back yard. Do you grill out? Do you play games? Do you swim? Do you garden? Do you have a swing set? These types of things will give you insight on the best way to go about upgrading your backyard. After you have a list of things you do in your back yard then make a list of things you want to do in your backyard. Do you want to entertain more? Do you want to add a swimming pool? Do you want to eventually add a pergola? Now take a look at each list to help you customize how you will upgrade your back yard. I’ve included the ways that I’ve upgraded my back yard and the changes that I’m making below.
Landscape Your Backyard to Fit Your Needs
I know that landscaping is not the cheapest thing you can do but we’ve started slowly but surely adding pieces to our backyard to help us transform it slowly. We paid for a landscape designer to come to our house and map out our backyard so we know what type of trees to plant, which shrubs would work best and which type of flowers will thrive.
I am known to plant all types of flowers in my front yard because I love them so much but they don’t always survive because I don’t plant the correct type for the sun and shade we have. While you don’t have to have a landscape designer to help you, take note of the shade and sun levels in your back yard during certain times of the day so you know what to plant.
Add an Area to Entertain Guests
We love entertaining family and friends at our house. I realized after multiple gatherings that a lot of people migrate outside whether it be to get some fresh air, check out the backyard, play with the dogs or to get a minute away from family members.

Our family is not opposed to having TVs in every single room of the house so adding one outside seems like the perfect combination. We love the SunBriteTV Veranda series is a family of weatherproof televisions designed for full-shade applications: Full Shade (Veranda), Partial Sun (Signature), and Full Sun (Pro).
It’s so nice to be able to have an outdoor living area that guests can enjoy. While we love our TVs, indoor TVs don’t belong outside so SunBriteTVs are true, made-for-the-outdoors products. They’re engineered for permanent outdoor installation and are more durable, safer, and higher performance than using indoor TVs outdoors.
