Carnival Cruise Shore Excursions To Explore in Progreso

Blog· Travel

This amazing cruise ship port is a beautiful way to enjoy some of Mayan history. Within just moments of docking in this location, you’ll be able to venture out to many well-known Mayan sites that are open to visitors. While this is a wonderful addition to all of the excursions you’ll enjoy when ported at Progreso/Yucatan Cruise Ship port, there is much to enjoy when your cruise ship docks at this location in Mexico.

You’ll notice upon arrival at the port that Progreso is very different from other ports. This port is 4 miles long so you’ll be taking a bus from the port into the city if you are not going on an excursion. The ride is completely free and will drop you off at the specific spot in downtown. From there, you can take one of their tours or explore the city on your own.

While exploring Progreso, I felt completely safe but I would suggest going on an excursion with Carnival to get the most bang for your buck. Today I’m sharing all of the fun excursions you can enjoy when your cruise ship docks at Progreso Cruise Ship Port.

Pink Flamingos – Lagoon Boat Ride & Swim with Lounge

Enjoy Celestun Biosphere Reserve where over 300 bird species migrate or live with the beautiful pink flamingos. This boat trip takes approximately one hour and forty-five minutes. You’ll get to enjoy the best spot for viewing flamingos first hand while taking amazing photos of all of the bird species found during your boat ride.

Sacred Cavern Expedition and Snorkeling Adventure

When you opt to enjoy this excursion you’ll quickly find out whey the Mayans used these caverns cenotes to speak to their gods. You’ll be able to swim inside the cavern to witness rock formations, stalactites, and stalagmites and leave this excursion in awe of the natural beauty found here.

Mayan Travel Expedition

Enjoy an expedition on this excursion where you can experience the architecture of the Mayans. People are still trying to go through the site and see just how the ingenious builders of the Mayan civilization were. There is much history to enjoy during this excursion at Progreso Cruise Ship Port.

The White and Golden Cities of Yucatan

This excursion invites you to experience the White City of Merida. Merida is one of the oldest cities found in the middle of the ancient Mayan city called Tho. You’ll be able to take a tour the shows you the old mansions and much more. This tour focuses on the Spanish Colonial aspects of the area.

Mexican Beer Tasting

What’s a cruise vacation without being able to enjoy a few adult beverages?! This exclusive pub crawl tour allows you to discover some of the best Mexican handcrafted beers around. The pub crawl starts at the Cerveza Patito brewery where you get a tour of how the beer is made.

Scenic Food Tour & Foodie Experience

This is a wonderful tour that allows you to experience the city of Merida in a different way than other excursions offer. You get to enjoy the local food and drink while taking photos with your camera to share on social media or with friends when you return from your cruise vacation.

Yucatan Cruise Ship Port has a still-active 1893 lighthouse, as well as a small marketplace and all of the excursions I shared with you above. This cruise port will surely delight your love of historical places and Mayan civilization.

If you have time after your excursion, the beach is completely free so hop on over and enjoy the waves and sun before heading back to the ship. All of these excursions can be found in your Carnival.com account!
