I did something that I’ve never done before. I got my skin checked.
It’s been on my list of things to do for a while. I have a million freckles and I’ve never been concerned about having melanoma or skin cancer, but you never know. The older I get, the more I realize the importance of taking care of my skin. I have always been one to lay in the sun with no sunscreen and bake until I’m past the point of being tan. I never used sunscreen, I thought it was a waste of time. As you get older, you start to realize the importance of taking care of your self (and skin) when friends and family start getting sick and noticing spots on their body. EEK.
I had a chance to go in to the dermatologist and get a quick exam all for FREE (details below). I wasn’t nervous about the visit, but I didn’t know what to expect since I had never been. I entered the doctors offices and filled out one page of paperwork. Within a few minutes of being there, I was in the doctor’s office speaking with the dermatologist. He had me change into a pair of paper shorts and a paper shirt that was backless. The doctor came back in the room and did a quick exam. He looked for any moles that looked abnormal. The exam took less than a couple minutes.
Thankfully, the doctor had no concerns about my skin at this time but he recommended that I get a check up at least once a year since I have so many freckles. He told me, “It’s like playing the lottery, the more tickets you have the better chance of winning. Same goes for your skin. The more freckles you have, the better chance you have of skin issues.”I got dressed and the exam was done. It was so simple which makes me wonder, why have I waited so long to get my skin checked?
