Take a Virtual Tour of Our Sports Themed Nursery

Blog· Family· Tech

From the second we found out we were having a boy, my husband knew what he wanted our nursery theme to be. I could not wait to get the nursery together and make what used to be a junk room into an actual functioning room for a tiny human. Finally getting that spare room together made it seem even more real that we were actually going to have a baby.

I couldn’t wait to play on pinterest and get ideas for the shower. What would we decorate the nursery in Woodlands theme?  Dinosaurs? Navy blue and gray? After approaching my husband with these wonderful ideas for the nursery, it was pretty cleat that he was dead set on a sports themed nursery. I lived and breathed sports growing up. I played softball and basketball then fell in love with soccer. Soccer was my life and I even played it in college at a Division 1 school in Dallas. I only tell you that because I want you to know, I love sports but I wasn’t sold on the idea of my kid’s nursery being all about sports.

Suddenly, I wasn’t as excited to decorate the nursery. Maybe it was my crazy pregnancy hormones but a sports themed nursery just wasn’t want I wanted. I was totally against it and my husband knew it. I didn’t want to cause issues, so I went along with the idea. I searched online for ideas on how to make the nursery come together and I couldn’t find many sports themed nursery for ideas. Little by little, my husband and I would buy random items for the nursery while we were out shopping from wall hangers to basketball piggy banks. It all slowly came together one piece at a time.

We combined all sports but the room seemed to be primarily focused on football and baseball. Upon entering, the first thing you see is the changing table with a custom made scoreboard that says “Segars Field.” My husband found a company online that makes these scoreboards and we knew it would be the perfect way to bring the room together because all sports have a scoreboard.

Although the scoreboard was a bit pricey, it is fully functional. It turns on, has a timer, buzzer and you can change the score easily with a remote. It’s one of my favorite items in the room and Bryce loves to lay on the changing pad and stare at it. Completely worth every penny.

On both sides of the changing table, we added lockers. These are real lockers like you would find in a school. We ordered them new online but you can find lockers pretty easily at flea markets. The lockers make great storage and will be able to grow with Bryce throughout the years.

After entering the nursery, if you turn immediately to the right we have a large wall and a door that goes into a private bathroom. On one side of the door to the bathroom we added shelves from Target with lots of fun stuffed animals we have received from friends and family.

We found a fun baseball hanger from Hobby Lobby. I keep all of my baby wearing items on this hanger. It’s great to have one central location since we’re always on the run. (If you’re looking for a great baby carrier, check out the Sollywrap. I received one as a gift and absolutely LOVE it.)

On the other side of the bathroom door, we found a fun Texas Rangers stadium sign at Target. My husband ordered a custom Texas Rangers jersey for Bryce that we love. It goes perfectly with our room colors and it’s something Bryce can keep forever.

On the same wall as the entrance door to the room, we have a TV and shelves for storage and toys. We’ve had a lot of people question us why we would put a TV in a newborn’s room but we think it’s perfect. We are able to connect it to pandora to listen to lullabies or to Chrome TV and listen to kid’s cartoons while Bryce is in the crib. Although he doesn’t spend a lot of time in his nursery now, we know it will be a great addition in the future.

The “Welcome Home Bryce” sign was in our yard when we came home from the hospital for the first time. My sister and niece stopped by and decorated our yard with balloons, a welcome sign for Bryce and chips and salsa. It couldn’t have been more perfect.

We are currently using the shelves for odds and ends. Once Bryce is mobile, we’ll be able to stock them with toys and extra books for him to grab easily. I knew I wanted crib sheets with all sports on them but finding a whole set for a crib was very hard. I came across a bedroom set at Pottery Barn but they were discontinued. I was able to buy the the crib sheets but they did not have any other items. It worked out well because I was able to pair a navy blue crib skirt with the sheet and it matched perfectly.

The custom name that is above the crib was also found at Pottery Barn. I was able to order it online and have it at the house within weeks. Since we’re huge Dallas Cowboys fans, my husband was on the hunt for some Cowboys decor to add to the room. He found this amazing Dallas Cowboys Field Rug on the NFL sports shop online. It really helps tie the room together.

In the corner of the room in between the crib and the scoreboard, we added a few corner shelves with a football, basketball piggy bank and an Arlo Baby. We are already huge fans of the Arlo so when they came out with a baby monitor, we knew we had to get it. The Arlo™ Baby 1080p HD Monitoring Camera is an all-in-one smart baby monitoring camera. I love that it is portable and I’m able to move it around the nursery as needed. We already have Arlo cameras set up inside and outside of our house, so it’s great to have access to all of our cameras inside the app. This camera provides live monitoring and smart alerts on your smartphone, tablet, or computer.

The Arlo Baby has advanced night vision so we don’t have to turn the lights on to see Bryce. It’s perfect for checking on him during nap time or at 3am. It also provides two way communication so we can listen in and talk to him from our phones which helps soothe him to hear our voice when he gets cranky. The Arlo Baby has motion and sound activated alerts which is great to help us determine if we need to go to the room or if he is moving around in the crib. There is also a baby crying alert that will tell you specifically if baby Bryce is crying versus other noises in the room.

We love to have music on for Bryce, he is like me and doesn’t like when things are dead silent. We’re able to use the Arlo Baby to play lullabies or white noise to help put him to sleep.  You can even record your own voice and manage music playing remotely from your smartphone.  Check out the Arlo Baby at Best Buy if you’re needing a new camera for you room, they also make great baby shower gifts!

I hope you enjoyed our virtual tour the sports themed nursery. We’ve had so much fun putting it all together and we think Bryce loves it too!

I know this year has dragged on and on for many pe I know this year has dragged on and on for many people but it has flown by to me. I'm 100% sure it has something to do with welcoming Myles into this world during the height of a pandemic and keeping a toddler alive at the same time. I can't wait for Christmas morning to make memories with my little family (even though Christmas shopping isn't complete and I haven't even thought about wrapping presents). It will all fall in to place, it always does. We didn't attend our favorite Christmas events this year or get pictures with Santa so this random Santa picture will do and I'm 100% happy with it. If this year has taught you anything, let it be finding the joy in the little things ❤
The holidays are quickly approaching! 🎄 Althoug The holidays are quickly approaching! 🎄 Although things might be a bit different this season, we're still enjoying some of our favorite foods and traditions. This year we're incorporating ordering family meal kits from @chuysrestaurant for not only my family but extended family that we might not be able to hang with this holiday. It's a simple way to spread the joy with loved ones, eat delicious food and not forget the reason for the season. #ad #nachoaverageholiday

Thankfully the second time around he cooperated. As painful as they may be, I'm so glad we get these done every year. I love looking back at them and see how much we've all changed and how much the kids have grown!
Can y'all believe the end of the year is here? We Can y'all believe the end of the year is here? We got our family pictures back and they look great other than the fact that Bryce decided not to participate. We got one shot with my entire family and Bryce is off to the side playing in poison ivy. 🤦‍♀️
