Six Ways We Use Google Home

Blog· Tech

To say we have a “connected home” would be an understatement. My husband and I can control a majority of our appliances from apps on our phone.

If we want to check what’s in our refrigerator, no problem. If we want to change the temperature in a specific room, no problem. If we want to turn on the lights or change the color of the light in a room, no problem. If we want to take a look at our house through cameras while we’re away, no problem.

It’s seriously an amazing capability to be so connected to your home and technology just keeps getting better and better so we’re able to add on to our connected home often. Most recently we added Google Home to our collection of products and couldn’t be more happy with what it’s able to do for us. If you aren’t familiar, Google Home is a voice-activated speaker powered by the Google Assistant. Having a Google Home has given us a whole new meaning to having a connected home.

All that is needed to get things started with Google Home is a simple “Ok, Google” or “Hey, Google” and the assistant is ready and at your service. We’ve had so much fun learning about Google Home and seeing everything it has to offer. Here are a few ways we are using our Google Home:

Enjoy some tunes. With a simple voice command, play tunes from services like YouTube Music, Google Play Music, Pandora, and Spotify. Enjoy even more compatible audio services by streaming directly from your phone to Google Home.

Ask all the questions. Seriously ask anything from “what’s the weather for the day?” or “Who won the Superbowl in 2009?” Google Home provides an answer within seconds.
Let Google Home be your personal assistant. Google Home can help coordinate your flight information, set alarms, start timers and add items to your shopping list.
Control your TV with Chromecast.  A few things you can have Google home do with your Chromecast include browsing popular content, search to find content my movie, TV or actor, change the volume on your chromecast devices, customize your TV with different imagery. All you have to say is “Okay, Google. Play goat videos on youtube.” Next think you know, your TV is playing fun goat videos.
Manage the temperature in your house with Nest.  We are now able to tell Google Home to turn down the air in our master bedroom or to turn down the air in our front living. I love that I don’t even have to open my app to do it.
Set the mood with Philips Hue Lighting. My husband and I might be a tad obsessed with the Hue lights. We have them in our bedroom, both living rooms, the hall ways and kitchen.  Now with Google Home we’re able to dim the lights, change the color of your smart lighting, play music and more with the Google Home voice-activated speaker. If we’re having guests over for a few drinks, we’ll set the lights low and set a fun mood. If our nieces and nephews are coming over, we like to make all the lights a different color and make the house look crazy.

Even if you don’t own a lot of connected home products, Google Home is still an amazing gadget to have. There is always questions that we are needing answered and as you know, Google has all the answers. You can purchase a Google Home at your local Best Buy.

One of my favorite things about 2020.... businesse One of my favorite things about 2020.... businesses adapting and making things work! I was recently introduced to @savageburritos and I'm in love. Savage Burritos is the love child of Uncle Julios so it you like UJ, you'll love Savage. They are a delivery only service offering burritos and bowls from select Uncle Julio kitchens in DFW. We ordered a variety of items from burritos, bowls, queso and more. Every single item was bursting with flavor. If you like spicy, I highly recommend the Nashville Hot Chicken Burrito. 🔥 Don't forget to add on a Margarita pop - nothing beats alcohol and Mexican food delivered straight to your door!

I know this year has dragged on and on for many pe I know this year has dragged on and on for many people but it has flown by to me. I'm 100% sure it has something to do with welcoming Myles into this world during the height of a pandemic and keeping a toddler alive at the same time. I can't wait for Christmas morning to make memories with my little family (even though Christmas shopping isn't complete and I haven't even thought about wrapping presents). It will all fall in to place, it always does. We didn't attend our favorite Christmas events this year or get pictures with Santa so this random Santa picture will do and I'm 100% happy with it. If this year has taught you anything, let it be finding the joy in the little things ❤
The holidays are quickly approaching! 🎄 Althoug The holidays are quickly approaching! 🎄 Although things might be a bit different this season, we're still enjoying some of our favorite foods and traditions. This year we're incorporating ordering family meal kits from @chuysrestaurant for not only my family but extended family that we might not be able to hang with this holiday. It's a simple way to spread the joy with loved ones, eat delicious food and not forget the reason for the season. #ad #nachoaverageholiday
Family pictures are always so much fun.... this ye Family pictures are always so much fun.... this year we got to attempt it twice thanks to sweet Bryce. Thankfully the second time around he cooperated. As painful as they may be, I'm so glad we get these done every year. I love looking back at them and see how much we've all changed and how much the kids have grown!
Can y'all believe the end of the year is here? We Can y'all believe the end of the year is here? We got our family pictures back and they look great other than the fact that Bryce decided not to participate. We got one shot with my entire family and Bryce is off to the side playing in poison ivy. 🤦‍♀️

Your child gets to fully immerse themselves into role playing any job they can imagine. From checking animals at the veterinarian, putting out fires as a firefighter, flying planes in an simulator, creating their own personal logo with Bic, or being a weatherman at WFAA - the options are endless! Kidzania activities are for ages 4 and up.

We felt very comfortable inside with their safety protocols. Temperatures were checked before entering. Everybody ages 4 and up must wear a mask. Hand sanitizer was readily available throughout the entire space. If you're looking for a fun outlet for your child to explore, check it out!
